We offer opportunities to join our Paraprofessional team for Law Clerks, Paralegals, Land Use Planners and Trademark Agents across all of our Practice Groups; these roles can be based out of any of our offices nationally:

  • Administrative Law: Environmental Law, Health, Immigration and Labour & Employment
  • Business Law: Capital Markets & Securities, Corporate, Financial Services, Insolvency, Intellectual Property and Mergers & Acquisitions
  • Litigation: Commercial, Constructions, Estates & Trusts, Family Law and Insurance Defence
  • Real Estate: Condominium Development and Governance, Commercial and Residential Transactions, Land Development, Municipal Law and Leasing
  • Tax: Charities & Not-for-Profit, Corporate Tax, Litigation and Private Client Services

Paraprofessionals work with lawyers and other professionals who specialize in one or more of these areas and are key team members with critical responsibilities within the team. We look for individuals who are responsive and resourceful, possess a professional attitude with great client service skills and are adept at managing assignments and priorities effectively to ensure deadlines are met and matters are continuously and consistently moving forward.

Key responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of legal and technical duties within the relevant practice area(s)
  • Draft complex documents and transaction-related correspondence
  • Conduct, document, review, analyze, verify, monitor, summarize and report on due diligence
  • Ensure timely filing of submissions, applications and related matters in relevant practice area(s)
  • Ensure timely responses to inquiries or requests for additional information
  • Participate in client interviews, engage in telephone and e-mail communications with clients and third parties for the collection and/or dissemination of information and providing status updates, as well as in the execution of documents
  • Research and interpret legal and technical procedures, statutes, and regulations applicable to relevant area(s) of practice, as well as related areas of practice
  • Other business related duties as assigned or deemed requisite

What you'll bring:

  • Community College Certificate / Diploma or Degree in a Law Clerk / Paralegal or Urban Planning program, and/or equivalent experience working in a legal environment in a Law Clerk / Paralegal, Land Use Planner or Trademark Agent role
  • Law Clerk / Paralegal, Urban Planner or Trademark Agent certification/designation, depending on province.
  • A solid understanding of current legal terminology and excellent knowledge of federal and provincial statutes and procedures relevant to area(s) of practice
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated proficiency in all types of professional communications
  • Excellent multi-tasking abilities
  • Proven ability to manage a large workload volume, competing priorities and demands
  • Sound ability to adhere to and manage the demands associated with strict deadlines
  • Strong ability to problem solve with minimal supervision and direction
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Excel, Word and Aderant
  • Sound ability to work independently, exercise initiative and follow instructions with minimal supervision
  • Sound ability to work well within a team environment
