Job summary

Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a Paramedic Educator to lead education initiatives within the Centre for Paramedic Education & Research. You will plan, organize, and deliver education for paramedics and provide remediation training as needed.

You will collaborate with regional and provincial partners to advance CPER goals and contribute to continuous quality improvement in prehospital care. This is a regular full-time position with days, Monday to Friday, at our West Regional Base Hospital.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in healthcare or related field.
  • Graduate of Advanced Care Paramedic or Primary Care Paramedic program recognized by authorities.
  • Diploma/certificate in Adult Education from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent experience as a paramedic educator.
  • Knowledge of prehospital Regulations and Standards.
  • Proficient with computers and MS Office.
  • Experience in adult education teaching principles.
  • Experience in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of education programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation.
  • Leadership and team-building abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, organize workload and priorities.
  • Mentoring and development of staff with various teaching resources.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Evidence of continuous learning in healthcare.
  • Proficiency in Official Languages would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and execute paramedic education activities to meet CPER goals.
  • Develop, organize and deliver educational events for paramedics.
  • Evaluate and train new paramedics and those returning to work or remediating.
  • Collaborate with local, regional and provincial partners and stakeholders.
  • Support ongoing quality improvement and research in prehospital care.

Unit Summary

The West Regional Base Hospital - Centre for Paramedic Education & Research (CPER) serves 9 communities - Brant/Brantford Paramedic Service (BBPS), Dufferin County Paramedic Services (DCPS), Haldimand County Paramedic Services (HCPS), Hamilton Paramedic Service (HPS), Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service (GWPS), Niagara EMS (NEMS), Norfolk County Paramedic Service (NCPS), Region of Waterloo Paramedic Service (RoWPS), Six Nations Paramedic Service (SNPS). Overall, the Base Hospital provides medical oversight, Certification, continuous quality improvement and education to over 2,000 Paramedics. In addition, the Base Hospital works towards advancing research in the field of pre-hospital emergency care.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Regional Education Manager, the Paramedic Educator is responsible for planning, coordinating and executing activities and tasks as they relate to paramedic education to achieve CPER's goals and fulfil the obligations of the Performance Agreement. Through collaboration with local, regional and provincial partners\stakeholders, the Paramedic Educator's responsibilities include development, organization, and delivery of educational events, evaluation/training of new paramedics of the EMS operators and training for paramedics returning to work or who require remediation.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree from a recognized university in a healthcare or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Graduate of an Advanced Care Paramedic program or Primary Care Paramedic program recognized by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
  • Diploma/certificate in Adult Education from a recognized institution (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent experience as a paramedic educator
  • Demonstrated knowledge of associated Regulations and Standards related to prehospital emergency care
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and required software (i.e. Microsoft Office)
  • Demonstrated experience in adult education teaching principles, preferably in the prehospital care setting
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of education programs
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (strong written and verbal) skills, including presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize workload and establish priorities
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the mentoring and development of staff and the ability to employ a variety of learning resources and teaching styles
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated evidence of continuous learning in healthcare or related field

Proficiency in both Official Languages would be an asset.
