Job summary

Powell Litigation in downtown Toronto is seeking an experienced Paralegal to lead our Small Claims Court practice. This in-person role requires handling matters from intake through judgment and enforcement, working closely with counsel and staff.

You bring a license in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, at least five years of Small Claims experience, and strong drafting, research, and client communication skills.

Qualifications

• Licensed Paralegal in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
• Minimum 5 years of experience handling Small Claims Court matters.
• Strong knowledge of the Rules of the Small Claims Court and Courts of Justice Act.
• Excellent drafting, legal research, and client communication skills.
• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload with minimal supervision.
• Proactive, detail-oriented approach and sound judgment under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Draft and file Small Claims Court documents including Plaintiff's Claims, Defences, Motions, and Notices.
• Manage the full lifecycle of small claims files: intake, disclosure, negotiation, settlement conferences, and trial preparation.
• Appear at settlement conferences and trials under Law Society of Ontario rules for licensed paralegals.
• Conduct legal research on small claims and civil procedure matters.
• Communicate directly with clients, opposing parties, and court staff.
• Track deadlines, organize evidence, and maintain disclosure obligations.
• Draft Offers to Settle and support settlement strategy.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Paralegal to take ownership of our Small Claims Court practice. This is a hands-on role for someone who knows the Small Claims process inside and out and can manage a caseload independently, from intake through to judgment and enforcement. This is an in-person position based at our downtown Toronto office, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We work closely as a team, and this role requires being on-site to collaborate directly with counsel and staff.

• Draft and file Small Claims Court documents, including Plaintiff's Claims, Defences, Motions, and Notices

What You Bring
