Job description

At ProMinds, we believe in working not for our clients but with them. ProMinds has a vacancy for a Paralegal/Legal Assistant III. In this role, you will be supporting the overall mission of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO).

Responsibilities
  1. Assists attorney in reviewing case material, including gathering and analyzing case data, and preparing a digest of decisions and legal references. May provide review support as Legal Clerk/Paralegal II.
  2. Receives, examines, and evaluates new and complex cases based on facts and standards.
  3. Assists in determining probable cause by reviewing reports, establishing the need for further evidence, and planning evidence collection. Advises attorneys on case strengths, weaknesses, and defenses.
  4. Investigates facts and laws, searches records, and uses legal research tools to prepare cases and identify causes of action. Interviews law enforcement regarding probable cause, evidence, and witnesses.
  5. Prepares for pretrial activities by organizing discovery, interviewing witnesses, and managing case documents.
  6. Assists in settlement negotiations and prepares related legal documents.
  7. Drafts legal pleadings, motions, and proposed orders.
  8. Organizes and manages case files and exhibits.
  9. Summarizes depositions, testimony, and legal proceedings to assist attorneys.
  10. Uses databases and software to generate reports, charts, and trial exhibits.
  11. Provides training to team members as needed.
  12. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
  • Paralegal Certificate with at least one year of experience, or a High School Diploma/GED with at least three years of paralegal experience.
  • One year of automated litigation support experience, with knowledge of legal technology tools.
  • Knowledge of forfeiture law, policies, procedures, and trial experience preferred.
  • Strong legal research and analysis skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including legal writing.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal databases.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service, flexibility, and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work well in a team and maintain professionalism under pressure.

This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a minimum background investigation of 7 or 10 years.
