Job description

We are in search of a Painter to join our Mechanical Maintenance team in Grimshaw, AB.

The Painter, under the direction of the Senior Superintendent - Mechanical Programs, will be responsible for ensuring that all equipment parts are painted to a consistently high quality in a fast-paced mechanical maintenance environment. Responsibilities will include operating painting equipment, performing all work in a safe manner, cleaning and maintaining painting and coating, ventilation, compressed air and personal protective equipment.

Job Duties
  • Select appropriate paint or mix paints using automated paint mixing equipment according to a pre-determined formula.
  • Operate equipment to clean, wash, strip, sand, remove corrosion, fill dents or otherwise prepare items for application of paint, lacquer or other protective or decorative coatings.
  • Operate hand-held spray guns to spray paint or coat stationary items with protective or decorative coatings.
  • Paint small items and apply touch-ups using paint brushes.
  • Clean and maintain painting and coating, ventilation, compressed air and personal protective equipment.
  • Mark, record and report defects.
  • Clean and perform preparation of worksite.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Operate, read, and maintain air monitoring and other sampling devices when working in confined spaces and/or hazardous environments.
  • Follow company policy and procedures and government legislation, including adherence to proper health and safety standards and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Ensure that process is completed within set timeframes, and work as a member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure products are finished by set deadline.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Minimum 1 year related experience in painting or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of corrosion-control methods and processes.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Basic computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word and e-mail.
  • Knowledge of controlling, adjusting, starting and stopping painting equipment for painting processes.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to work with tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Valid Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
