Job summary

Torstar is seeking a student Editorial Trainee to join our digital monitoring hub in Toronto. This paid, contract role offers hands-on reporting tasks alongside full-time staff in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

Responsibilities include monitoring police and emergency services, tracking breaking news on social media, and providing quick newsroom tips, as well as original reporting for all Torstar platforms. Must be a current post-secondary student eligible to work in Ontario.

Qualifications

• Must be eligible to work in Ontario and a current post-secondary student.
• Willing to work a variety of shifts including weekends and nights.
• Familiarity with CP style and reporting basics.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular checks with police, fire, and paramedics.
• Monitor social media and other sources for breaking news.
• Provide quick tips to the newsroom.
• Original reporting for all the Star’s platforms.
