The Packaging Supervisor works under the direction of the Operations Manager and is responsible for direct shift supervision in the Bottle shop at Grimsby, with occasional support at Trius Winery. We are looking for someone with some manfacturing environment work experience and availability in the afternoon shift at this time.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Supervise and direct the daily activities of packaging, maintenance & logistics employees at both the Grimsby and Trius winery locations, ensuring completion of daily production orders, while adhering to Health and Safety, Food Safety and Environmental standards & procedures.
- Ensure a safe and healthy work environment through effective execution of Health & Safety programs
- Promote and ensure safe operation, cleaning and maintenance of production equipment
- Hold product quality in the highest regard, promote and ensure adherence to food safety and product quality programs including GMPs, HACCP, on-line quality checks and quality wine handling procedures
- Participate in the development of equipment SOPs, lock-out and safe work procedures.
- Support troubleshooting and problem-solving processes to resolve equipment and process issues in a timely manner and to improve operational efficiencies, up time and production capacity
- Facilitate departmental meetings to ensure employees receive quality and timely communication and training and to address equipment and employee issues and concerns
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, orientation and training of new operations employees
- Support personal development of team members through open communication, team building and training,
- Manage employee performance and deliver annual employee performance reviews
- Promote a positive department and company culture, encouraging cross functional collaboration, employee accountability, empowerment and engagement
- Monitor established key performance indicators including OEE, HL/Hr, budget adherence, product losses and labour efficiency
- Deliver on daily, weekly, monthly and annual KPI and operating targets
- Lead and/or support the execution of continuous improvement studies and projects as assigned to deliver against annual savings targets; working collaboratively with production employees and management staff across all departments
- Provide site support for continuous improvement activities and initiatives; promote and support principals of lean manufacturing, root cause analysis, value stream optimization and promote a culture of continuous improvement
- Create and maintain employee schedules and complete timesheet/payroll functions.
- Assists in special projects as directed by the Ontario Operations Manager
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to : Ontario Operations Manager - Grimsby
- Direct Reports :
- Indirect and/or direct management of 20+ FT employees , PT and/or Flexible employees
- Regular interaction, coordination and support for Manager and Director- level stakeholders
DIMENSIONS
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Physical Effort: Office and plant environment- extended periods of walking, standing, sitting & computer use. There is occasional need to move moderately heavy articles and to climb stairs or ladders frequently.
- Physical Environment: Working within the manufacturing environment of large and small wineries with close proximity to loud, high speed manufacturing equipment and exposure to cold, hot and humid environments.
- Schedule Flexibility:
- Frequently changing work schedule to ensure optimal delivery of production requirements.
- Estimate 80-90% of time on afternoon shift, 3p.m. 1 a.m. Mon-Thurs (4 x 10)
- Potential for extended work hours during OT events
- Sensory Attention: Substantial attention to detail and accuracy (production records, regulatory reporting, KPI and financial tracking). Pace of work will be frequently fast, high level of confidentiality as it relates to sensitive employee information and proprietary company information.
- Mental Stress: Environment of tight deadlines, changing priorities, multi-tasking, multi-shift and multi-location operations,. Manage own workload and priorities according to the overall departmental objectives and daily production demands.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE
- College diploma or university degree in a related field of study is considered an asset
- Minimum 2 years relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Food and beverage manufacturing experience an asset
- Strong Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing systems and continuous improvement methodologies an asset
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills required
- Proficient in Microsoft office and asset.
