Job description
Overview

Work Schedule: 12 hr shift/nights

Environmental Conditions: Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance, adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards. Cleanroom: no hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, facial hair etc. allowed. Loud noises (equipment/machinery). No contact lens allowed; prescriptive glasses will be provided. Some degree of PPE (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.) required. Standing for full shift.

Job Description

How will you make an impact: Ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of packaging equipment and facilitate improvements to meet the production schedule. Ensure product quality meets the standards of Patheon, our clients, and applicable regulatory agencies including, but not limited to the Health Products and Food Branch Inspectorate (HPFBI), United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA), and European Medicines Agency (EMEA).

Shift schedule: 12 hour Continental shift including weekends

We have two positions available.

Responsibilities
  • Sets up, take down and relocate all packaging equipment using Set Up Work Instructions. Ensure lines are operating to meet production schedule and targets.
  • Responsible for repairs, running adjustments, preventative and breakdown maintenance and trouble shooting.
  • Ensure accurate process documentation and down-time activities.
  • Ensure proper clean-up, parts and tools are put away when activities are complete.
  • Identify routine and unique problems with equipment.
  • Recommend solutions to routine and unique equipment problems.
  • May implement solution or change to equipment operation.
  • Validate that implementation of solution is correct and equipment is operating and working properly.
  • Communicate between shifts with other mechanics and supervisor of key issues or potential issues.
  • Identify and recommend new order and re-order of equipment parts.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and report potential hazards.
  • Perform alternating or rotating shift work.
Education and Experience
  • Education: High school diploma/General Educational Development (GED) Certificate is required
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of previous experience in a packaging environment, 1 of which includes maintenance related activities within a pharmaceutical packaging environment.
  • Equivalency: Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience dealing with liquid/tube/tablet/powder fillers, labelers, cartoners, inkjet printers and over wrappers. High level of mechanical interest aptitude. High level of trouble-shooting abilities. Ability to adapt to a changing environment quickly and easily. Demonstrated strong attention to detail. Demonstrated strong documentation and record keeping. Ability to work well independently and in a team environment with limited supervision. Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Operating Procedures and safety standards. Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Proficiency in the English language.

Physical Requirements

Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about manufacturing/office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights up to 40 pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity; visual acuity to operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time. Usually in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors causing moderate physical discomfort from such things as dust, loud noise, bright lights, fumes or odour. Use of Personal Protective Equipment is required and may include safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator.
