Job description

Join to apply for the Package Handler Trainer PT role at FedEx Canada.

This position involves training other package handlers (MC/PH) in loading, unloading, palletizing, and scanner techniques to ensure efficient and safe movement of packages. The role includes physical tasks such as loading, unloading, and sorting packages manually, including lifting, pushing, and placing packages carefully and efficiently. Package handlers may be assigned to various sectors and positions such as loader, unloader, pallet assembler, weigh station attendant (SWAK), quality assurance (QA), sorter, and others.

Essential Functions
  1. Train new PHs in unloading, loading, palletizing, carrying, smalls handling, SWAK, and non-conveyable package techniques.
  2. Provide additional training to PHs needing instruction on handling techniques as directed by management.
  3. Offer feedback on proper package handling techniques.
  4. Reinforce all dock safety standards among peer PHs.
  5. Demonstrate understanding of processes and procedures by example.
  6. Update managers on operational conditions during sorting to aid decision-making.
  7. Assist in implementing new handling procedures and techniques.
  8. Regularly perform loading/unloading, palletizing, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling tasks while training others.
  9. Use manual methods for handling all packages.
  10. Load and unload packages from delivery vehicles, trailers, pallets, conveyor carts, and load gratings.
  11. Continuously lift, carry, push, and pull packages for 3-5 hours per shift, potentially working multiple shifts.
  12. Select appropriate conveyor systems by scanning and reading labels, verifying information, and sorting packages accordingly.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education
  • None required
Minimum Experience
  • No experience required; six (6) months of package handling experience at FedEx Ground preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to train multiple colleagues simultaneously.
  • Ability to understand and follow work instructions and safety procedures.
  • Ability to discern numbers and information for correct sorting.
  • Ability to operate basic tools and equipment such as rollers, carts, scanners, and unloading devices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a team under pressure.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record for equipment operators.
Working Conditions
  • Work in hot and cold environments.
  • Work in noisy settings.
  • Must be able to lift and carry between 10 and 50 lbs.
