Job description

We are seeking a Permanent Part Time Pacemaker Technologist at Kelowna General Hospital in Kelowna, BC.

Days of work : Rotating, Days

Shift times : 08:00 to 16:00, 09:00 to 17:00, 09:30 to 17:30

What will you work on?

The Pacemaker Technologist provides patient care to Pacemaker Clinic patients and during Pacemaker implantation. Performs pacemaker analysis in the O.R., including assisting the surgeon during implant procedures and programming individual pacemakers to correct values during implant. Performs techniques related to Electro Cardiogram (ECG) testing, stress testing, Holter and pacemaker monitoring, and other diagnostic cardiac equipment. Provides interpretations, analysis, and test / summary reports as required.

  • Reviews and maintains records relevant to patient history, vital signs, and Pacemaker details.
  • Performs pacemaker programming in the O.R. as required, including assisting the surgeon during implant procedures, and setting individual pacemakers to correct values during or post-implant.
  • Programs pacemakers to optimal settings and maintains records of data obtained for review by physicians.
  • Performs tests such as determining capture and sensing thresholds of implanted leads, and makes calculations to determine safety values of pacemaker, assessing pacemaker function.
  • Acts as a resource to physicians and other health providers relevant to pacemaker functions by providing information and troubleshooting.
  • Responds to queries regarding pacemaker functions and their manifestation in patients and recordings.
  • Participates in developing and reviewing standards, procedures, and instructional materials for pacemaker services.
  • Participates in the review, evaluation, and selection of pacemakers and provides implant recommendations.
  • Ensures equipment operates within quality control limits, collaborating with Biomedical Engineering or manufacturers as needed.
  • Performs duties of a Cardiology Technologist, including stress testing, Holter, and electrocardiogram analysis.
  • Explains cardiac pacemaker systems to patients, monitors pacemakers, and notifies cardiologists of abnormalities. Contacts patients for repeat recordings as needed and reports abnormalities according to policies.
  • Transfers ECGs in management systems for interpretation by medical staff.
  • Monitors departmental activity levels and assists staff to meet requests for service.
  • Maintains statistics and files reports.
  • Maintains equipment through cleaning and replacement of consumables.
  • Participates in Quality Management and QA programs, including LEAN initiatives.
  • Assists in staff and student orientation, in-service presentations, and demonstrating procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
