Qualifications

• A DZ Driver’s Licence with a safe driving record is required.
• Safety-first attitude with safe working habits.
• Understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Flexibility with scheduling, including occasional weekend work.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Safely operating residential vehicles to collect waste streams and deliver to depots.
• Provide reliable, high-quality customer service to residents.
• Follow collection schedules and MWSI policies, and comply with regulations.
• Work collaboratively with staff, management and residents in a respectful manner.
• Ensure receptacles are returned to their original place after collection.
• Complete 800+ residential stops per day safely.
• Support contract success by being a team player and contributing feedback.

Summary

The DZ Driver/Picker at Miller Waste Systems is responsible for the safe, efficient collection and transport of residential waste streams. This role supports public health by ensuring timely service, adherence to safety and environmental regulations, and respectful interaction with the community.

Responsibilities

• Safely operating the assigned residential vehicles to collect various waste streams (yard waste, green bins and garbage) in a safe and efficient manner and delivering the material to the appropriate depot (transfer station, landfill, compost facility etc).
• Providing customers with reliable and high-quality customer service. Proper disposal of the waste streams is vital to the health and well-being of the residents of the community.
• Adhering to the collection and delivery schedule while following all relevant MWSI policies and procedures as well as legislation and regulations set out by the Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Environment as well as the by-laws of the Municipality in which you are working in.
• Working collaboratively with fellow employees, management, residents and members of the public in a polite and respectful manner at all times.
• Ensuring all waste receptacles that are emptied into the collection vehicle and placed back on the resident’s property, flipped upside down at the curb, in the same place that they were removed from.
• Completing in excess of eight hundred (800) residential stops per day and doing so safely.
• Supporting the success and performance of the contract by being a team player.
• Participate in other projects and provide constructive feedback as required.

Competencies & Qualifications

• A DZ Driver’s Licence with a safe driving record is a must.
• A safety-first attitude with demonstrated safe working habits.
• An understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and your responsibilities as an employee within it.
• Flexibility with scheduling, as early starts, delayed finishes and on rare occasions, weekend work will be required.
• The ability to stand for long periods of time and safely lift 50 pounds repeatedly, as this can be the weight of the material.
