Position: OSC Program Assistant (Overnight Stay Care)
Note: This is a weekend-only position with Day, Evening, and Overnight shifts available.
Reports to: Overnight Stay Care (OSC) Program Coordinator
Under the supervision of the OSC Program Coordinator, the OSC Program Assistant ensures quality client care by implementing therapeutic activity programs and assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), following the policies, procedures, and standards of the Alzheimer Society.
Job Qualifications
Education
- PSW (Personal Support Worker) certificate or equivalent
Experience
- 1-2 years working with seniors with cognitive and physical disabilities, including personal care and ADL assistance
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Certifications
- Experience with individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Current First Aid/CPR and Ontario Food Handler’s certification
- GPA (Gentle Persuasive Approaches) and U-First certifications are assets
- Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and appropriate insurance
- Clear vulnerable sector check
Service Responsibilities
- Support daily program operations, including planning, staffing, purchasing supplies, cleaning, and other duties
- Assist in developing and updating individual client care plans
- Create a comfortable and secure environment for clients; ensure program sites are safe and accessible
- Participate in planning and evaluating activities, ensuring safety and appropriateness, and contributing to quality improvement
- Support volunteers and students in program implementation
- Monitor and report significant behavioral or health changes to the Program Coordinator
- Assist clients with ADLs such as eating, dressing, toileting, and medication management
Administrative/Organizational Responsibilities
- Ensure the efficient operation of the Overnight Stay Care Program under the Program Coordinator
- Maintain accurate client documentation and report concerns regarding client eligibility
- Follow emergency procedures, fire regulations, missing persons protocols, etc.
- Report incidents and hazards appropriately
- Communicate professionally with staff, clients, families, and volunteers, respecting confidentiality and dignity
Personal Responsibilities
- Promote a positive community image for the Society
- Adhere to Society policies and procedures, following management’s directives
- Seek ongoing education and training to support clients effectively
- Stay informed about Alzheimer’s disease, related dementias, and current research and treatments
