Job description

Position Overview

Freight Team Associates are responsible for stocking merchandise, organizing the sales floor to create a pleasant and safe shopping environment, and providing customer service as required by customer demand. They operate reach trucks, forklifts, and order picker machines to bring merchandise to the sales floor. Associates pick and carefully pack orders to prevent damage, and label and place orders into designated holding areas.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Handling Merchandise
    • Stock merchandise onto shelves to achieve 100% in-stock levels.
    • Pack-out and pack-down merchandise as directed.
    • Merchandise new items and promotions.
    • Maintain aisle cleanliness and shoppability to ensure merchandise is accessible and visually appealing.
    • Organize overheads (e.g., striping overheads).
    • Communicate with team members to ensure proper stocking.
  2. Ensuring Customer Satisfaction
    • Follow Home Depot’s Get Model of Customer Service: Greeting, Engaging, and Thanking customers.
    • Ask open-ended questions about customer projects to understand their needs and expertise.
  3. Maintaining Safety and Security
    • Move freight safely using appropriate equipment from staging areas to overheads or vice versa.
    • Ensure aisles are accessible and safe for customers.
    • Follow all safety and loss prevention policies and procedures.

Reports to the Freight Team Supervisor.

Physical Requirements

Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items. Ability to climb ladders up to 16 feet to stock or obtain merchandise.

Working Conditions
  • Flexible schedule including overnight, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • Warehouse environment that may be dusty and noisy.
  • Exposure to gas fumes from forklifts.
  • Open doors causing drafts and temperature changes.
Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

1-2 years retail or distribution experience is a plus.

Certifications

Knowledge of operating reach trucks, forklifts, and order pickers is an asset.
