Job summary

Aerotek is seeking an Overhead Crane Operator for our Calgary-based operations. You will safely operate mobile cranes, follow engineered lift plans, and support heavy lift projects in a large industrial facility. The role requires active participation in safety meetings, strict adherence to regulations, and precise documentation of lifts and inspections.

Ideal candidates have Alberta crane certification, 2+ years of experience, and a reliable commute. Overnight shifts from 9:45 p.m. to 6:15 a.m.

Qualifications

  • Valid Alberta Hoisting Equipment Operator Certification for the appropriate crane class.
  • Minimum 2 years of crane operation experience in industrial, construction, or energy settings.
  • Proven ability to operate overhead and mobile cranes safely in heavy industrial environments.
  • Experience with rigging including slings, shackles, and other rigging gear.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations, lift plans, and hazard assessment processes.
  • Ability to read and follow engineered lift plans and supervisor instructions.
  • Clear verbal communication with spotters, riggers, and site supervisors.
  • Proficient with radios and hand signals for crane communication.
  • Basic proficiency in material handling (packing, picking, shipping/receiving).
  • Use of hand tools and equipment like forklifts and RF scanners.
  • Reliable transportation to arrive on time for shifts.
  • Willingness to work overnight shifts (9:45 p.m. – 6:15 a.m.), Mon–Fri.

  • Assist with production-related activities such as general production, assembly, packing, picking, and shipping and receiving as needed.
  • Use hand tools, RF scanners, and other basic equipment safely and efficiently in support of operations.
  • Follow all site safety policies, procedures, and work instructions to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Complete a 4-day orientation and on-the-job evaluation, demonstrating safe work practices and competence in required tasks.

Job Description

The Lift Crew / Crane Operator is responsible for safely operating mobile cranes and supporting production and heavy lift activities in a dynamic industrial environment. This role focuses on strict adherence to safety procedures, accurate execution of engineered lift plans, and effective collaboration with lift crew members and site personnel.

Work Environment

This role is based in a very large, brand-new, and clean industrial facility focused on heavy lift and production operations. You will work overnight shifts from 9:45 p.m. to 6:15 a.m., Monday to Friday. A comprehensive 4-day orientation is provided, including 3 days in the classroom and a 4th day of on-the-job evaluation and training, with sessions available from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The facility uses cranes, forklifts, hand tools, RF scanners, and other industrial equipment, and work is performed in a structured environment with clear safety protocols. Each shift includes two paid 15-minute shuttle periods, one paid 15-minute rest break, and one unpaid 30-minute meal break, while maintaining eight hours of paid work per shift. The workplace emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety standards, with appropriate industrial attire required for working in a heavy industry setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Calgary, AB.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.81 - $35.81/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
