This job posting is for an existing vacancy and is intended to fill a current position within our organization.

We are currently looking for a Outtripping Team Lead to join our team of committed professionals. This full-time summer contract position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario's John Island Camp location in Spanish, Ontario.

Under the leadership of the Program Manager and Director of John Island Camp, the Outtripping Team Lead is responsible for all aspects relating to the Leadership & Outtripping programs at John Island Camp. They are to oversee and facilitate the training of staff, pre-trip orientation for campers, food ordering and packing, equipment maintenance and repair, route planning, and OT program logistics.

LOCATION : Spanish, ON

Major Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee Outtrips including cabin outtrips, explorer canoe program, sea kayakers program, and know the locations of all the outtrips.
  • Support the Leadership staff in pre-trip preparations which includes food purchasing / packing, equipment management, route planning, and booking of sites / transportation.
  • Communicate with participants and parents as required.
  • Be a positive role model for all program participants.
  • Ensure budget requirements are followed containing Outtripping expenses.
  • Assist with logistical and administrative duties which includes trip logs, route cards, equipment checklists, and Outtrips debriefs.
  • Schedule, train, and support the staff and volunteers for outtrips.

Qualifications

  • Possession of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) considered an asset.
  • Experience managing wilderness trips and large programs in a similar setting.
  • Experience supervising other staff in a camp setting.
  • Experience with the logistics of extended Outtrips which includes equipment and food preparation and planning.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C.
  • Bilingualism in both official languages an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (some positions require French communication skills).
  • Excellent presentation / facilitation skills.
  • Solid knowledge of Outtrip practices and its risk management considerations.
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record with Vulnerable Sector Check.
