Position Overview
Delta is seeking a results-driven and Ag-focused Outside Sales Representative to support and grow our customer base across a key agricultural region in the Northern Okanagan. This territory includes some of British Columbia’s most productive farmland and ranchland, making it ideal for an individual passionate about agriculture, irrigation technology, and rural community relationships.
The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in agricultural irrigation systems and a proven ability to build trusted relationships with farmers, ranchers, orchard managers, vineyard operators, and agri-businesses. Your primary focus will be on agricultural irrigation equipment, but the role also includes sales opportunities for pumps, motors, and related systems.
Responsibilities
- Territory Development: Build and execute a strategic plan to grow market share across your territory. Focus on expanding sales of agricultural irrigation systems including pivots, hose reels, wheel lines, drip systems, and pumps.
- Customer Engagement: Conduct farm visits and site assessments to understand crop, livestock, or land management needs. Recommend tailored irrigation and pump solutions that deliver value.
- Product Expertise: Gain a deep understanding of ag irrigation technologies including center pivots, wheel lines, hose reels, and drip irrigation systems for vineyards, orchards, market gardens, and field crops.
- Relationship Building: Actively engage with farmers, ranchers, ag consultants, irrigation managers, and agricultural associations to establish long-term partnerships.
- Sales Process Management: Prepare quotations, deliver sales presentations, assist with irrigation designs, and negotiate agreements that reflect both customer needs and company goals.
- Service Support: Conduct product startup, minor adjustments, and basic troubleshooting when needed to ensure customer satisfaction and reduce downtime during peak growing seasons.
- Industry Involvement: Attend trade shows, cattle sales, ag expos, and local agricultural events to represent the company and uncover new leads.
- Market Intelligence: Stay informed on agricultural trends, competitor activities, and government funding programs that affect irrigation and farm infrastructure investments.
- Reporting & CRM: Maintain detailed records of customer interactions, sales progress, territory coverage, and competitor intelligence using our CRM and Microsoft tools.
Qualifications
- Proven outside sales experience, ideally in agriculture, irrigation, or ag-tech.
- Strong knowledge of agriculture irrigation systems and water management solutions.
- Experience working with or selling to farmers, ranchers, orchardists, or vineyard managers.
- Self-starter with exceptional communication, planning, and relationship-building skills.
- Mechanically inclined – capable of understanding system layouts and performing basic field adjustments.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively throughout rural areas.
- Degree or diploma in Agriculture, Agri-Business, Engineering, or a related field is an asset.
