Job summary

Reporting to Program Manager. The STBBI Outreach Worker is responsible for recruiting participants and assisting the team Registered Nurse in data collection for Syphilis and HIV Point of Care Testing. The STBBI Outreach Worker engages with community members who are interested in Syphilis and HIV Point of Care Testing in order to collect and input data effectively and efficiently into the database.

Position Responsibilities

  • Recruit individuals who meet the criteria for the research study
  • Assist the team Registered Nurse with collecting individual data
  • Input collected data into digital system
  • Visit other locations as needed along with the Registered Nurse to enhance engagement and assist in data collection
  • Connect and build relationships with various community partners in a meaningful way
  • Identify service gaps in meeting the needs of people we serve
  • Discuss how to have a healthy level of coexistence, tolerance and respect among everyone
  • Respond to overdoses and other related crisis by following the proper protocol
  • Facilitate the development of standards of behavior expected in the areas
  • BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge, experience or willingness to learn of substance use and culture, overdose prevention, sex trade, STBBIs, and issues people living in the inner-city face
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and harm reduction
  • Familiarity with local community resources (e.g. substance use, social services)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with marginalized communities is an asset
  • Lived experience with substance use or houselessness
  • Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months
  • Required to have current BCLS certification
  • Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course
  • Experience with and knowledge of Indigenous culture and ceremonies is considered an asset.
