Actua is seeking an Outreach Coordinator in Ottawa, Ontario, to lead the coordination and delivery of STEM learning experiences across Canada. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement (four days in office, one day from home) with travel as needed to support delivery across communities and events.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in a related field such as education, STEM, Indigenous studies or event management.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating programs, logistics and budgets.
• Experience recruiting, training, supervising and mentoring seasonal staff.
• Experience working with First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities is an asset.

About this opportunity

Actua has an immediate opening for an Outreach Coordinator in Ottawa, Ontario.

We are looking for an exceptional operational lead to help coordinate the delivery of impactful learning experiences across Canada and support our seasonal instructor team during delivery seasons. Learning experiences include school workshops, summer camps, public events, and other initiatives as they arise. The majority of our Outreach Team programs are developed for audiences in northern remote areas of the country, including the Arctic, and primarily in Indigenous communities.

This is a full time permanent position reporting to the Director of Outreach. We offer a hybrid work arrangement (four days in office/one day work from home), balancing flexibility with high-impact in-person collaboration. Some travel and work outside of regular office hours will be required throughout the year to support program delivery.

Actua is a national charity that delivers life-changing experiences to youth in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). We achieve this through our network of member organizations located at universities and colleges across Canada and through our own Outreach Team that delivers STEM programming in areas not yet served by our network members.

What you will do:

• Program Coordination & Operational Execution: Manage timelines and logistics for diverse delivery models (school workshops, summer camps, virtual sessions, and kit shipments). Act as the main point of contact for schools and community partners to establish program details.
• Instructor Supervision & Support: Support seasonal instructor hiring, lead supervision and scheduling, co-facilitate training, and provide real-time coaching and support during active delivery periods.
• Logistics & Financial Tracking: Coordinate high-volume, complex travel routes (flights, hotels, ground transport) and administer operational budgets, including expense claims, vendor invoices, and guest honoraria.
• Community Engagement & Strategic Support: Actively identify and foster opportunities to deeply integrate local community members, Knowledge Keepers, and partner organization priorities into Actua’s on-the-ground program delivery. Provide valuable community insights back to internal teams to help shape responsive, culturally relevant program design and identify new trends to expand Actua’s reach in underrepresented areas, including Northern and Indigenous communities.
• Safety, Risk Management & Administration: Implement risk protocols, maintain accurate program and safety records, and process post-program reports.
• Direct Delivery: Deliver outreach programs locally in Ottawa or nationally as needed, while supporting recruitment events, conferences, and educator workshops.

Additional desired skills and experiences:

• Undergraduate degree (in a related field: education, STEM, Indigenous studies, event management);
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record;
• Demonstrated experience in program coordination, complex travel planning, and financial tracking/expense reconciliation;
• Proven experience recruiting, training, supervising, and mentoring dynamic teams or seasonal staff;
• Experience working respectfully and collaboratively with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit partners and communities;
• Familiarity with the unique logistical realities of travel within rural, remote, and Northern/Arctic communities;
• Bilingualism (French and English or Inuktitut and English) is an asset.
