Job description

Overview

FirstHealth of the Carolinas is a nationally recognized health care system located in central North Carolina. The outpatient RN works with the team to prepare and recover patients for surgery, minor and GI procedures, works in the GI suite during procedures, provides discharge teaching and patient education, transports patients as needed, performs IV insertions, administers infusions, and monitors patients throughout procedures.

Responsibilities
  1. Uses the nursing process to assess, plan, and evaluate patient care.
  2. Provides nursing care with consideration of the age group served within the health care system.
  3. Demonstrates appropriate safety and infection control measures.
  4. Teaches/directs/advises/informs others in an appropriate professional manner.
  5. Reports/records information legibly and appropriately.
  6. Maintains annual unit-specific mandatory competencies prior to expiration.
  7. Attends and completes required meetings, in-services, and competency validation activities.

Physical:

  • Able to access the entire facility; lift and transport patients, supplies, and equipment. Demonstrates manual dexterity, hearing acuity, and verbal acuity.
  • Displays the ability to stand for long periods, walk, lift, bend, and stoop during the majority of the workday. Has sufficient endurance to perform tasks over lengthy periods.
  • Involves exposure to blood/body fluids, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases. Ensures a safe environment by optimizing safety at all times.

  • Works cooperatively with co-workers, volunteers, and other FirstHealth team members to provide optimal quality care.
  • Demonstrates physical assessment skills.
  • Displays effective organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize with accuracy and speed.
  • Illustrates efficient computer skills within service provided.
  • Demonstrates effective problem-solving and has the ability to develop critical thinking skills. Maintains clinical and professional competency levels required of age-specific populations.
  • When not performing patient care, must be able to anticipate unit needs – including stocking supplies within the unit.
Qualifications

The following qualifications are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Current North Carolina RN license or RN multi-state licensure privilege through the Nurse Licensure Compact required.
  • Department-specific certification requirements are listed below and must be achieved within the first year of employment and maintained on an annual basis: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NCI – Maintain certifications prior to renewal date, unless under National Pandemic situation, then certifications will be completed as soon as available.
