Job summary

The Government of Nova Scotia’s Public Works department seeks an Engineering and Survey Technician for Bible Hill. Reporting to the District Bridge Engineer, you conduct surveying and engineering duties to support highways and bridges, including data collection and plan preparation in field and office settings.

You will assist in inspections, contract supervision, and crew coordination, while maintaining safety and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a two-year survey or civil technology program.
• Proficiency in mathematics and drafting.
• Working knowledge of bridge/highway construction design standards and contract specifications.
• Familiarity with Land Surveyors Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act; union environment is an asset.
• Computer literacy with software used in surveying/engineering.

Responsibilities

• Perform survey duties including vertical and horizontal highway alignment and data collection.
• Prepare plans and determine quantities of materials used.
• Aid a Bridge Inspector in regular inspections of structures across the District.
• Assist in contract supervision and day-to-day supervision of District Bridge Crews; coordinate logistics for crews.
• Ensure compliance with safety programs and contract specifications.
