Job description

As an Outbound Business Development Representative, you'll focus on generating qualified sales opportunities through proactive outreach to new prospects and existing customer accounts. You'll research target organizations, identify business challenges, and connect with stakeholders across teams and leadership levels to secure meetings for our Account Managers.

You'll work closely with our sales and marketing teams to develop targeted outreach strategies, communicate the value of Safe Software's solutions, and contribute to revenue growth.

Work Location

This position will be remote initially while we establish our Toronto office. Once the office is operational, employees in this role will be expected to work on-site three days per week, with the remaining two days worked remotely. Candidates should be based in Toronto or the surrounding area and able to meet the future in-office requirements.

Compensation

This role offers a base salary of $73,500 CAD, plus performance-based variable compensation of $31,500 CAD, for a total on-target earnings (OTE) of $105,000 CAD annually.

About The Team

You'll work closely with Account Managers, Pre-Sales, Product Marketing, and the BDR team to identify opportunities, develop outreach strategies, and build a qualified sales pipeline. Through regular check-ins and team meetings, you'll share insights, review performance, and align on priorities.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an Outbound Business Development Representative, you will:

  • Generate new business opportunities: Conduct outbound prospecting through cold calls, personalized emails, and social outreach to connect with decision-makers at prospective and existing customer accounts.
  • Research target accounts: Use prospecting platforms and AI tools, including HubSpot, LinkedIn, Clay, Gong, Claude, and ChatGPT, to identify prospects, understand organizational structures, and tailor your outreach.
  • Build a qualified sales pipeline: Develop an understanding of Safe Software's products, value proposition, and sales strategies to identify customer needs, communicate relevant solutions, and secure qualified meetings for Account Managers.
  • Manage sales activities: Track outreach, maintain accurate prospect and account records, and manage follow-up activities in HubSpot.
  • Collaborate across teams: Partner with Account Managers, Pre-Sales, and Product Marketing to prioritize target accounts, refine messaging, and improve outbound campaigns.
  • Improve outreach strategies: Participate in regular check-ins with Account Managers and the BDR Director, along with weekly team meetings, to review results, share insights, and adjust priorities based on performance and market opportunities.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies
What We’re Looking For:
  • A bachelor's degree, associate's degree, or equivalent education.
  • 2+ years of experience in business development, outbound sales, or a related role.
  • Experience with cold calling, writing effective outbound emails, and engaging prospective customers through multiple channels.
  • Ability to research target accounts, identify decision-makers, and build relationships with stakeholders across an organization.
  • Ability to set priorities, work towards sales targets, and manage outreach activities independently.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including active listening and the ability to adapt messaging to different audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when managing prospect information and follow-up activities.
  • Comfort using AI tools to support prospecting, account research, and daily workflows.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a remote team while managing day-to-day responsibilities independently.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience selling to or prospecting within industries such as Energy and Utilities, Provincial, State, or Local Government, Transportation and Rail, Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC), or Telecommunications.
  • Familiarity with HubSpot, LinkedIn, Gong, or similar sales prospecting and CRM tools.
