Job description

Kelowna is seeking a Head & Neck Surgical Oncologist to join our group of six members at Kelowna General Hospital and be the second full-time Head & Neck Oncology position. You would be joining a division that currently has subspecialties in Head & Neck Oncology, Laryngology, Facial Plastics, Allergy and Otology, as well as a highly collaborative Plastic Surgery Division. The Interior Health Cancer Centre is located at KGH, with team of Head & Neck Radiation Oncologists locally, as well as weekly H&N tumour boards provincially.

Surgical resources are shared equally and include weekly minor surgery time (1/2 day) and at minimum one dedicated OR day per week, plus additional OR time weekly (including pick up time, extra oncology allocation time and collaborative OR time with plastics). Average of 2+ days per week.

Due to the nature of the region, each division member will be expected to participate in adult and pediatric general ENT coverage for Central Okanagan and beyond. The ideal candidate is to be comfortable with both adult and pediatric ENT in the OR and on call. Call is also equally shared, including 1:6 weekends and equal division of stat holiday weekends. As is typical of community practices, this job is fee-for-service, and all division members have clinic space outside of the hospital.

Our team is a great group, supportive of each other, and focused on a healthy work-life balance, while providing modern patient care. There is still plenty of time for enjoying skiing, biking, watersports, wine and a relaxed way of life in our four-season playground.

Start date as soon as possible. We welcome 2025 fellowship graduates as well as the seasoned surgeon looking for a change of pace. Although our intention is to hire for 2025, we welcome candidates with start date availability of up to July 2026. Candidates must be Canadian Royal College qualified at the time of job start date and have permission to work in Canada at the time of application. Anyone interested, is encouraged to contact Dr. Bakala at doctorcam@shawcable.com or IH Recruitment at physicianrecruitment@interiorhealth.ca.
