We power communities and deliver value to our customers and shareholders every day. We are currently seeking a skilled OT Systems Engineer to join our team. As an OT Systems Engineer, you will apply your expertise in designing, implementing, and optimizing SCADA supervisory systems to enhance operational excellence. You will play a key role in advancing investment programs that strengthen core assets and sustainability. Leading and collaborating with cross-functional teams and field personnel, you will ensure operational technology systems remain resilient and adaptable, driving forward-thinking solutions, fostering innovation that meet evolving needs with a central customer focus.
System Integrity & Performance
- Maintain and enhance the operational systems, ensuring high standards of availability, integrity, security, and functionality.
- Exercise sound judgment in planning and coordinating work to minimize system interruptions.
Technical Oversight & Integration
- Provide leadership and develop innovation solutions to promote safety, operations and grid reliability. Directly support engineering design of SCADA systems, RTU’s, gateways, and interfacing with plant instrumentation, protection, and automation systems.
- Support SCADA system administration tasks, including development, configuration, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance in coordination with field teams.
Collaboration & Standards Development
- Work closely with design engineers and Engineers-in-Training (EITs) to establish guidelines, best practices and specifications that ensure long-term adaptability of OT systems. Coordinate with IT teams to define network architecture, security measures, and infrastructure requirements for shared systems and future projects.
- Develop visualization and data historian functions, streamline cross-departmental data exchange with Customer Information Systems with integration and leveraging third-party systems (power generation, GIS/AMR, OMS) to enhance grid reliability, service continuity, and customer trust through innovative data strategies.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including technical records, drawings, electrical and network schematics, and written activity reports.
Other Duties As Required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 3+ years experience with enterprise-level OT supervisory systems, preferably within an electric utility, as well as experience in SCADA system hosting—from enterprise-level applications to plant-level HMI/automation software, including database/graphics development and commissioning. Equivalencies may be considered.
- Eligibility for professional registration with NAPEG to practice as an Engineer or E.I.T. (Engineer in Training) in the NWT required.
- Hands-on experience in interpreting electrical drawings, with solid knowledge of process and instrumentation, controls, and the integration of field devices.
- Proficient in using AutoCAD and in the design of supervisory equipment, integration and commissioning.
- Robust working knowledge in OT systems design, including RTUs, PLCs, end devices, industrial SCADA and automation communication protocols, programming, and network analysis tools.
- Familiarity with both Linux/UNIX and Microsoft enterprise environments.
- Intermediate experience with database management systems (DBMS, RDBMS) particularly with Oracle and SQL environment.
- Hands on experience with process data historian tools integral to operational analytics such as OSIsoft PI suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Fluent in English with innate ability to convey varying degrees of technical information.
- Strong planning, organization, and time-management skills with a proven aptitude for multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to perform effective root cause analysis.
- A collaborative, team-oriented approach with a proactive stance in communicating and coordinating with management.
- A solid working knowledge of safety regulations, job safety hazard assessment and safe work procedures applicable in electrical environments.
- Familiarity with managing virtual environments and administering systems such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Proxy Servers, Bastion Hosts, and security appliances in IDMZ.
- Exposure with SCADA security frameworks CIP and IEC 62443 as t applies to Industrial Control Systems (ICS) is a preference.
- Class 5 driver's license.
- Travel may be required.

This is a bargaining unit position. Salary for this position ranges from $66.22/hr - $80.48/hr., plus a location allowance of approximately $4,642 per annum.
