Job Summary :

Provides assistance with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a registered nurse or provider (physician or advanced practice provider).

Job Responsibilities and Requirements :
Primary Responsibilities
  • Applies and removes splints and casts.
  • Repairs, maintains, and adjusts casting material during treatment regimen as necessary for patient safety and comfort.
  • Assesses cast material needs and application techniques for patients.
  • Measures and fits patients for hinged braces, orders appliances, and documents measurements and results.
  • Provides patient and family education regarding cast/splint application, care, and removal.
  • Documents events in the patient's medical record (blood pressures, etc.) and maintains confidentiality.
  • Provides escort for orthopedic patients within the clinic when necessary.
  • Participates in telephone screening of cast patients for education, referral to nurse, physician, and appointment desk.
  • Assists with surgical procedures in the procedure room.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education

High School diploma / GED or 10 years of work experience.

Experience

One additional year of training and one year relevant orthopedic experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech for communication.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent reaching, gripping, and data entry.
  • Frequent use of vision for distances near and far, and to distinguish colors.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, and repetitive movements.
  • Occasional lifting/moving patients and objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional use of smell to detect odors.
  • Occasional driving.
Required Certifications

Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) within 90 days of employment. Other certifications may be required depending on department.
