Job summary

Compass Early Learning and Care (CELC) has been serving East-Central Ontario since 1981, with 700+ staff and 46 centres. We seek an Organizational Lead - Communications to steward messaging, information systems, and public presence across the organization, ensuring accessibility and alignment with our values.

The role offers a 35-hour work week at our Peterborough administration office, with a one-year contract that may extend. Start January 2027; end January 2028, with a potential extension.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences, business or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years' experience working in a communications position.
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills. Solid understanding of effective marketing strategies.
  • Leads with a Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion lens.
  • Local community connections and networking.

Responsibilities

  • Practices Collaborative Leadership and compassionate communication.
  • Aligns messaging with CELC’s vision framework and policies.
  • Develops and stewards consistent organizational messaging and communications strategy.
  • Maintains accessible, value-based communication across the organization.
  • Builds relationships internally across teams and externally with families, members of CELC and community partners.
  • Stewards Compass brand, visual identity and public presence; collaborates on the social media strategy and analytics.
  • Identifies opportunities to evolve information systems and guides best practices.
  • Collaborates with the IT lead to develop an organizational technology strategy aligned with Compass' needs.
  • Stewards organizational practices related to information security and privacy and acts as the privacy officer.
  • Builds strong relationships across communications, IT and grant project teams, the organization, and the broader community.
  • Collaborates with Corporate lead on advocacy strategy.
  • Identifies and supports opportunities for grant proposals.
  • Develops and steward the website's review and implementation process for accuracy, accessibility, engaging and alignment with values.

Role Title: Organizational Lead - Communications

Job Type: Contract

Hours and Schedule: 35 hours/week - Monday to Friday

Hiring Range: 33.60-38.73hr/week

Anticipated Start Date: January 2027

Anticipated End Date: January 2028

About the role

As the Organizational Lead - Communications you would steward the organization’s communication and information systems so that people feel supported with functional tools, accessible information and a sense of interconnectedness.

Accountabilities
  • Practices Collaborative Leadership - compassionate communication, giving and receiving feedback, use the decision-making protocol when working through dilemmas or proposals.
  • Lives into Compass ELC's vision framework, values, diversity, equality and inclusion in accordance with CELC Policies and all other relevant legislation.
  • Develops and stewards consistent organizational messaging and communications strategy aligned with CELC's vision framework.
  • Nurtures the conditions for clear, accessible, value-based communication across the organization.
  • Builds relationships internally across teams and externally with families, members of CELC and community partners.
  • Stewards the Compass brand, visual identity and public presence and works collaboratively with the Communications Coordinator on the social media strategy and analytics.
  • Identifies opportunities to evolve information systems and provides experience and knowledge to guide best practices.
  • Collaborates with the IT lead to develop an organizational technology strategy aligned with Compass' operational needs and vision framework.
  • Stewards' organizational practices related to information security and privacy and acts as the privacy officer.
  • Builds strong relationships across the communications, IT and grant project teams, the organization, and the broader community.
  • Collaborates with Corporate lead on advocacy strategy.
