Job summary

FYidoctors Dartmouth - Alderney Drive clinic is seeking an Optometric Assistant to join our team and support exceptional eye care in a busy, patient-centric environment.

You will perform pre-testing, frame fitting, billing, appointments, and contact lens support, while delivering outstanding customer service and accurate care.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years optical experience required.
• CCOA designation preferred.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with technology and computers, including MS Office Suite.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet and check-in/out patients and engage with patients in person, by phone, and via email.
• Perform pre-testing to support comprehensive eye care.
• Educate patients on eyewear options and assist with frame selection.
• Interpret optical prescriptions provided by the optometrist.
• Take frame and facial measurements and adjust eyewear as needed.
• Coordinate appointments and prepare prescription printouts.
• Manage billing and payments for patients, insurers and third parties.
• Assist with contact lens fittings and process contact lens orders.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and ensure a positive patient experience.

Job description

Our FYidoctors Dartmouth - Alderney Drive clinic is looking for someone like you to bring your exceptional skills and experience to join us as an Optometric Assistant to fill an existing vacancy!

In this role, you’ll enhance the lives of our patients every single day, delivering exceptional vision and eyewear experiences in a dynamic, rewarding, and collaborative environment.

This position is a full‑time role working 30‑40 hours per week. Our clinic is open Monday to Friday.

What You’ll Do

• Greet and welcome patients to the clinic, manage patient check in and check out and engage with patients in person, by phone, and via email
• Perform pre‑testing to support comprehensive eye care
• Educate patients on eyewear options tailored to their lifestyle, assisting with frame selection to ensure optimal value, quality, aesthetics, and performance
• Interpret optical prescriptions provided by the optometrist
• Perform frame and facial measurements, ensuring proper fit and positioning of new eyewear, as well as repairs and adjustments
• Coordinate appointments, and prepare prescription printouts
• Manage billing and payments for patients, insurers and other third parties
• Assist with contact lens fittings and process contact lens orders
• Deliver exceptional customer service, ensuring a positive patient experience
• Support clinic operations by performing additional duties as required

What You Bring

• Past or current CCOA designation preferred
• Minimum 3 years optical experience required
• Ability to multi‑task and thrive in a fast‑paced environment
• Proficiency with technology and computers, including MS Office Suite
