  • Due to the nature of the business, some positions are permanent, full time seasonal (approximately March 1 – December 1)

Position Overview To be considered successful in this role, you'll be expected to safely unload/load trucks and railcars with hot asphalt. You'll also help ensure the safe and efficient operation of the asphalt terminal which includes the production of the quality asphalt products.

Here is a preview of what you'll be doing:

  • Safely start up, operate, and shut down the boiler
  • Routine inspections on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Perform boiler feedwater and cooling water tests.
  • Communicate daily engineering activities with Chief Engineer and update all engineering logs daily.
  • Maintain accurate, up to date maintenance records and work orders.
  • Become proficient in all aspects of terminal operation
  • Handle multiple responsibilities including customer service, monitor efficiencies, use the truck scale, write safe work permits, and assist asphalt orders
  • Load/unload trucks/railcars with hot asphalt product
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all systems within the terminal
  • General maintenance, cleaning, housekeeping, and snow removal

This is what we need from you

  • Minimum 5th class power engineering required (4th class an asset)
  • Previous transload or experience with an asphalt terminal, a strong asset
  • Strong knowledge of Safe Work Permits and LOTO
  • Mechanically inclined
  • A strong commitment to maintaining safe work practicesat all times
  • Strong ability to handle challenges and problem-solve
  • Willingness to develop your knowledge in emulsion production, quality control and a technical understanding of different products
  • Additional skills we'll strongly consider to be an asset:
    • Understanding of P&ID's and basic flows
    • Process experience in a plant setting
    • Experience in the petrochemical field or other industrial environment
    • Railroad experience

Here are some of the requirements of this role

  • Ability to:
    • work at heights
    • swing a 10-lb sledgehammer
    • walk extensively on uneven terrain
    • lift 50 lbs.
    • Work and stand on uneven surfaces for prolonged periods of time
    • Work outside for extended periods of time, in all weather conditions
    • Work while wearing a SCBA respirator (this is a clean-shaven work site)
  • Candidates are required to clear a criminal background check, drug screen, and preemployment medical examination.
  • Attend and pass all job-required tests (WHMIS, TDG, H2S, Fall Arrest, First Aid, and all other site-specific training, as required)
