Reporting to the Supervisor, Waste Operations, the Operator III, is responsible for the maintenance and operations of equipment used in the maintenance and construction of parks and open spaces.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Carry out the inspection and maintenance of City infrastructure including waste containers, sports fields and parks and open space related infrastructure including playgrounds and water plays
  • Provide winter control including snow removal and the application of de-icing materials
  • Operate a large variety of both hand and power tools, and heavy equipment including 3 point hitch and P.T.O driven attachments
  • Litter pick, waste management, mow, over-seed, top-dress, fertilize, and repair equipment
  • Assist with supervision of small work crews, maintenance and completion of legible records, and investigating and assisting with follow-ups to enquiries from the public
  • Assist with special events, such as Canada Day and other sections or departments as required
  • Other duties as assigned
Duties and Responsibilities Cont'd (if applicable) Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience
  • Completion of additional courses as set out in the CUPE Local 905 agreement is required
Required Skills/Knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience in grounds and winter control operations in a public setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with coworkers and the public and work well with minimum supervision
  • Good communication skills
  • General knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Physically and medically able and competent to perform the physical demands of this position under adverse weather and site conditions
  • Available for standby and shift work
  • Ontario Class "DZ" Driver’s License in good standing and must provide a satisfactory current Drivers Abstract from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO)
  • Requires satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Demonstrates good judgment and makes sound decisions
