Operator - 8 month Fixed Term

Trouw Nutrition is hiring… we’re looking to add a Fixed Term Operator to our team in St. Mary’s, ON.

Guided by Plant Supervisors & Lead Hands, the Operator ensures smooth and on-time production of product and packaging line operations. They actively enhance food production quality, maintaining precise records.

Safety is paramount in our Trouw Nutrition feed mill. We minimize injury risks through comprehensive training. Alongside, we prioritize quality and food safety, promptly addressing concerns to meet standards. The Operator is the “basic” level of operator role, performing basic operational processes in production. They operate equipment and machinery that requires a certain level of proficiency, acquired through training on the job and specialized training.
Knowledge of the use of all materials, equipment and tools is required to perform, and typically this takes time and effort to gain the experience and skills.
The activities are characterized by a large portion of (semi) routine work, which can be performed based on training, experience and (when routine does not suffice) the availability of assistance by Multi-Skilled Operators, Supervisor / Team Leader or others.

Job Description:

The Support / Assistant Operator supports the (production) process by performing relatively simple tasks, associated with high volume / repetitive work streams.

The knowledge required for the tasks can be generally acquired through a short explanation / instruction.

If the Support / Assistant Operator has a specific (set of) tasks, the activities are governed by very detailed and precisely formulated instructions, with assistance present or readily available. Activities are performed at routine levels.

If the Support / Assistant Operator works closely with more senior colleagues, supporting them in their work, he / she focuses on the simple, supportive activities, also working under very explicit and close supervision.

Examples of job titles that would fall into the category of Support / Assistant Operator are Bagger, Egg Sorter, Handler, Industrial Cleaner / Sweeper, Loader, Packaging Employee, Packer, Palletizer, Universal Support / Assistant Operator.

The common denominator of jobs fitting the Support / Assistant Operator job profile is the basic, repetitive work governed by detailed instructions, of an ancillary or supportive nature.

Operational activities

1. Performs various manual operational activities and/or operates basic machinery / tools.
2. Performs basic checks and controls on materials, like checking weights, size, visual checks etc. Signals deviations with supervisor.

Good housekeeping

1. Cleans all equipment and work environment.

Communication

1. Discusses work with colleagues and supervisor.
2. Provides information when asked, follows-up instructions and guidance from colleagues and supervisor.

Compliance

1. Works in compliance with all relevant safety regulations and procedures, as well as technical standards.
2. Signals potential hazardous and / or unsafe situations, takes appropriate action in case of imminent unsafe situations.
