Job summary

The Woodfibre LNG project site in Squamish, BC, seeks an Operations Technician Utilities to join the dynamic Operations team. You will report to the Shift Supervisor and contribute to ORA readiness, start-up activities and ongoing operations with emphasis on safety and environmental responsibility.

You will support procedures, maintenance planning, and device handovers, while ensuring plant reliability and compliance with company HSSE policies.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum 2-3 years in Utility Operations of Industrial Facilities.
  • 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate and/or EOCP Water tickets Level I/II with an understanding 4th Class Power Engineering will be required to be obtained, in the near future.

Responsibilities

  • Be part of ORA Core Team member; develop procedures, manuals and core docs to operate the LNG facility safely.
  • Support the ORA Plan execution for Start-Up and ongoing operations.
  • Ensure safe production and execution of standard activities/tasks in the plant during shift.
  • Ensure plant/equipment availability and reliability during shift.
  • Support implementation of the Maintenance Strategy.
  • Support PTW functions, compliance, auditing and safety requirements.
  • Ensure equipment is isolated and safe before maintenance handovers.
  • Develop and implement checklists and routines for plant and equipment.
  • Provide timely input data for daily shift reports to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Interface with Technical Services for integrity and compliance checks.
  • Interface with HSSE for compliance and safety improvements.
  • Coordinate with other departments for support and documentation.

Project

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Position

The Operations Technician Utilities is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG's dynamic Operations team. The successful candidate reports directly to the Shift Supervisor. This role will be based on the Project Site, in Squamish, BC, and you will play an essential part in supporting the company's Operations Team through the Operations Readiness Assurance planning and execution and into the Start-Up and operational Phase of the project. During Operational Phase as Operations Technician Utilities on shift you will also be a key contributor to the environmental practices and social responsibilities to the community being held to the uppermost standards as set out by Woodfibre LNG.


Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:



  • Be part of ORA (Operations Readiness Assurance) Core Team member. Development of Operating Procedures, manuals and core documentation required to operate the LNG Facility efficiently and safely

  • Support the Operations Management in executing the ORA Plan to ensure readiness for Start-Up into the Operational Phase of the project and throughout the life cycle of the facility

  • Ensure safe production and execution of standard activities/tasks in the plant operational area during their shift

  • Ensure availability/reliability of the plant and equipment during their shift

  • Support implementation of the agreed Maintenance Strategy

  • Support PTW including functionality/improvements, isolations standards, competencies, issuing, precautions, compliance, auditing, PTW manuals and authorization.

  • Ensure all equipment and plant, to be handed over for maintenance is correctly isolated and in a safe state for personnel to undertake tasks.

  • Competencies and Training requirements are in place and measured.

  • Develop and implementation of check lists & routines for plant and equipment.

  • Timely delivery of input data and correctness for plant daily shift report to Shift Supervisor

  • Interface with the Technical Services Department for integrity issues and compliance checks

  • Interface with HSSE department for compliance and improvements

  • Interface with other departments for support requirements and documentation


HSSE


  • 100% compliance with company HSE policies and guidelines

  • Champion HSE as a member of the LNG Operations Team

  • Attend HSE Shift Meeting/safety walks/audits when required

  • Timely intervention to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel and plant

  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to influence overall safety behavior in the plant

  • Safeguarding systems check lists are implemented/completed by Shift Operations to agreed frequencies and standards

  • Ensure that Shift Operations Emergency Response capabilities are 100% met during shift period

  • Basic Fire Fighting and Emergency Response experience preferred


Requirements

Required Experience:



  • High School Diploma

  • Minimum 2-3 years in Utility Operations of Industrial Facilities.

  • 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate and/or EOCP Water tickets Level I/II with an understanding 4th Class Power Engineering will be required to be obtained, in the near future

  • Previous experience as an Operations Technician Utilities (Utility Operator)

  • Previous experience during project phase leading into Start-Up and Operations

  • Previous experience working with other departments to support production targets.

  • Fully versed in Managing Permit to Work Systems

  • Are willing to comply with WLNG's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures

  • Undergo a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs


Additional Requirements


  • Communication/interpersonal skills - to be able to interact effectively with all departments and contractors

  • Ability to work well under pressure handling tasks, targets and changing priorities within tight time frames

  • Expertise with a variety of computer programs (e.g. MS Office)

  • A valid driver's license (with abstract) and passport

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • The position is based in Squamish, BC (Project Site), with an initial stay period at the Vancouver Office
