Job summary

Woodfibre LNG is seeking an experienced Instrumentation Technician to join the Operations team. You will install, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation and process equipment at the Woodfibre LNG facility.

Reporting to the Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor, you will support start-up, preventive and emergency maintenance, and ensure safe, reliable plant operation, with site work in Squamish, BC and potential travel to our yard in China.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant industrial maintenance experience.
  • Valid BC Journeyman Instrumentation Technician ticket or Red Seal certification.
  • Dual Instrumentation & Electrical ticket is a plus.
  • Gas Chromatograph and analyzer experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Yokogawa control systems and DCS/PLC/HMI.
  • Commissioning and start-up experience beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Support start-up and operations of the LNG plant at Squamish site and yard in China if required.
  • Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation such as transmitters, controllers, analyzers, GCs, control valves, fire and gas systems.
  • Inspect and test instruments to diagnose faults using pneumatic, electrical and electronic tools.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and emergency maintenance; complete reports.
  • Assist with instrument repair, calibration, and small piping installations.
  • Collaborate with teams and service providers to improve reliability.

Project

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Job Summary

Woodfibre LNG is seeking an experiencedInstrumentation Techniciansto join our dynamic team. Reporting to theElectrical & Instrumentation Supervisor,the successful candidate will work closely with the Operations team handling preventative, predictive, break-in, routine, turnaround and emergency work. Key responsibilities include installing, calibrating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of instrumentation and process equipment at the Woodfibre LNG facility. This role offers an opportunity to be part of a dedicated team, ensuring the safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible operation of the plant.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

  • Support start-up and operations of the LNG plant at both the Squamish site as well as our yard in China if required
  • Troubleshoot and repairs of process control instrumentation such as transmitters, controllers, analyzers, Gas Chromatograph’s, control valves, fire and gas detection systems, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and repairs of various types of instrumentation, electrical and control equipment and continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS)
  • Inspects and tests operation of instruments and systems to diagnose faults using pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices and precision measuring instruments.
  • Performs scheduled preventive, predictive, and emergency maintenance work, complete test and maintenance reporting and history documentation
  • Performs mechanical work associated with instrument repair and modification while having the ability to remove and install small piping and tubing.
  • Rebuilds and calibrates transmitters and control valves
  • Provide day-to-day support for ensuring maximum reliability and uptime of WLNG equipment, work towards achieving reliability goals and measure effectiveness of reliability programs
  • Review process flow drawings, equipment lists, and specifications to resolve work procedures.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and third‑party service providers.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of maintenance key performance indicators.
HSSE
  • 100% compliance with company HSE policies and guidelines.
  • Champion HSE as a member of the LNG Operations Team.
  • Lead HSE Shift Meeting/ safety walks/audits if and when required.
  • Timely intervention to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel and plant.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to influence overall safety behavior in the plant.
  • Safeguarding systems check lists are implemented/completed by Shift Operations to agreed frequencies and standards.
  • Execute plant wide operations hazards awareness program.
  • Initiate inputs for plant risk register and mitigation tracking process for operations.
Required Experience
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant industrial maintenance experience
  • A valid BC Journeyman Instrumentation Technician ticket or Red Seal certification
  • Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
  • Dual Instrumentation & Electrical ticket
  • Gas Chromatograph and analyzer experience
  • Proficiency with Yokogawa control systems
  • Commissioning and start-up experience
  • Knowledgeable of DCS systems, PLC’s, and HMI’s
  • Previous experience using an AMS an asset
Additional Requirements
  • Energetic in pursuit of continuous improvement processes.
  • Experience working with large multi-disciplinary teams, and contractors in a multicultural environment is an asset.
  • Communication/interpersonal skills – to be able to interact with front line workers through to management and all hierarchical levels.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Motivated and willing to take ownership of tasks.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks, targets and changing priorities within tight time frames.
  • Shares knowledge readily and encourages personal development.
  • Demonstrated computer knowledge with experience in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, etc.
  • A valid driver’s license (with abstract) and passport.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • This role will be a combination of office and site-based role.
  • The position is based in Squamish, BC (Project Site), and work in the Company’s Vancouver Office as required.
