Job Description

Located out of our Pioneer 1 site, the individual in the Operations Technician role will report to the Offgas Operations Lead. The Operations Technician is responsible for the day-to-day operational support for all plant equipment and assets. Operations Technicians are accountable for the safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective monitoring of the plant equipment and assets related to their trade. They are familiar with all aspects of operations and provide coaching and training to junior personnel.

Key Activities And Responsibilities
  1. Have a solid understanding of all processing units and the functions of each major piece of equipment.
  2. Carries out routine operating procedures and duties including starting and shutting down equipment as required, process monitoring and recording.
  3. Ensure all operational duties are performed according to IPL procedures, policies, standards, and guidelines.
  4. Recognize and avoid inappropriate risks – consider the consequences and impact before taking action.
  5. Take immediate and decisive action during emergencies, plant shutdowns, equipment failures, or process deviations.
  6. Perform activities such as procedure development, equipment preparations, and planning to support maintenance activities and timelines.
  7. Assist in maintenance activities as required, including preparing equipment operationally, maintaining, and repairing equipment and plant systems.
  8. Provide input and complete activities assigned by the Operations Supervisor.
  9. Maintain an open attitude toward change and participate when appropriate.
  10. Work well with a wide variety of people, aiming for win/win outcomes.
  11. Aid in troubleshooting and resolving operational issues.
  12. Maintain appropriate records and documentation as required.
  13. Respond to call-outs as needed to support operational shift requirements.
  14. Overtime and vacation coverage are required.
  15. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the area of responsibility, including obstruction removal and oil wiping.
Education, Skills, And Experience
  1. Minimum of a 4th class power engineer’s ticket; preference for 3rd class.
  2. H2S alive, WHMIS, and TDG certifications are assets.
  3. 5+ years in a related operations position with control room experience.
  4. Strong communication, organizational, and MS Office skills are assets.
Hours

Based at the Pioneer 1 site, located 25 minutes north of Ft McMurray, this position involves 12-hour shifts, days/nights, on a 7 on, 7 off rotation.

This position is safety and security sensitive; employment is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment medical, drug/alcohol, and criminal background checks.
