Job description

Operations Manager, Southern Ontario (Hamilton)

Harbinger Network has partnered with a well-established constructor with over 70 years of experience providing quality general building services to heavy industry across Canada to find their Operations Manager, Southern Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Providing top notch service to clients, suppliers and other stakeholders by responding professionally and with a sense of urgency.
  2. Being an ambassador of the company both internally and externally.
  3. Maintaining excellent relationships with owner, architect, consultants, subcontractors, and the public.
  4. Ensuring projects meet corporate goals for safety, quality, budget, schedule, and profitability.
  5. Assisting in securing new work by participating in estimates, working with subcontractors, and/or participating in proposals and presentations.
  6. Ensuring project safety standards and environmental programs are always adhered to.
  7. Reviewing all cost reports and forecasts; looking for early warning signs of trouble, and developing plans to mitigate risks.
  8. Assisting in completion of long-range (year-end) planning.
  9. Assisting in compiling information for monthly operations report.
  10. Promoting and supporting project safety.
  11. Promoting and supporting quality assurance standards and processes.
  12. Liaising with owners, clients, and consultants (including compiling client and subcontractor survey results).
  13. Participating in project proposal teams/marketing, where applicable.
  14. Preparing correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents; proofreading materials for accuracy, completeness, compliance, formatting, and correct English usage, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  15. Assigning field and project staff to projects; involved in recruiting, hiring, transferring, termination, and performance evaluation of operations staff.
  16. Leadership, mentoring, promotion of training, and professional development.
  17. Assisting in compiling major claims.
  18. Resolving issues with owners/other agencies.
  19. Assigning resources to projects to optimize utilization.
  20. Performing other relevant duties as assigned to meet business unit and organizational objectives.

Education & Professional Requirements:

  1. Post-secondary diploma/degree in Construction, Building Technology, or Engineering.
  2. At least 10 years of construction industry experience in a management level position.
  3. 10 years of proven experience in project management from project pursuit to project close-out, overseeing commercial construction projects (hard bid, AFP, and/or negotiated).
  4. Technical Diploma, Professional Engineer, C.E.T. Gold Seal Constructor, or PMP.
  5. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, field drawings, and plans.
  6. A solid understanding of all construction trades and construction techniques.
  7. Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances, and legislation, including OH&S regulations and Building Codes.
  8. Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
  9. Familiarity with labor relations and collective agreement management.
  10. Familiarity with project accounting systems, Viewpoint an asset.
  11. First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets.
  12. Possess a valid driver’s license.
