Job summary

G&E Contracting LP is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead field and office teams across civil projects on Vancouver Island, based out of the Langford yard in Victoria. This full-time role reports to the General Manager and focuses on delivering projects safely, efficiently, and profitably while supporting growth.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive management experience within civil construction.
  • Degree, diploma, or technical training in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related discipline is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of civil construction methods, project delivery, contract administration, and estimating practices.
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects, supervisors, and operational teams.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with satisfactory driving record.
  • Strong financial acumen including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and productivity analysis.
  • Experience interpreting contracts, specifications, permits, and regulatory requirements.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to project managers, supervisors, forepersons, and field crews.
  • Develop and implement operational plans, schedules, objectives, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Support business development efforts and identify new project opportunities within target markets.
  • Oversee project performance to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to client expectations.
  • Review project financial performance, including budgets, forecasts, productivity metrics, and cost reports.
  • Participate in tender reviews, project planning, resource allocation, and risk management activities.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships with clients, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout all operations.
  • Conduct regular site visits to support project teams, monitor progress, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversee procurement of equipment, materials, subcontractors, and professional services as required.
  • Work collaboratively with corporate support teams to improve operational effectiveness and reporting processes.
  • Mentor and develop staff through performance management, coaching, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Participate in health and safety meetings and ensure implementation of company safety programs and corrective actions.
  • Plan and coordinate labour, equipment and other operational resources across projects to support project requirements and changing business priorities.
  • Work closely with the General Manager to establish operational priorities and support annual and longer-term business planning.

Description

An exciting opportunity exists at G&E Contracting LP for an Operations Manager. This is a full-time position based out G&E’s Langford yard in Victoria with jobsites in the local area and over Vancouver Island.

G&E Contracting LP is seeking a driven, experienced, and safety-focused professional to join our team as an Operations Manager. This role provides leadership and direction to field and office personnel with the goal of delivering projects safely, efficiently, and profitably while supporting the continued growth of our civil construction business.

Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Operations Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of multiple civil construction projects and support strategic planning, resource management, business development, and employee development.

G&E Contracting specializes in civil construction and infrastructure projects throughout Vancouver Island and British Columbia. Our services include earthworks, underground utilities, road construction, site development, mechanical construction, and public infrastructure projects. We are committed to delivering high-quality projects while maintaining the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and customer service.

The Successful Candidate Shall Have the Following Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive management experience within the civil construction industry.
