The Opportunity : Operations Manager
Are you a seasoned operations leader with a passion for community safety and a knack for managing large dynamic teams The Ottawa Safety Council is seeking an experienced and dedicated Operations Manager to lead our Toronto office.
In this pivotal role you will be directly responsible for the successful oversight of the OSCs vital Toronto School Crossing Guard program and services. You will lead and inspire a team of approximately 200-250 part-time field employees across the Greater Toronto Area while also providing strategic direction to 2 full-time office staff and 3 full-time field supervisors. Youll work in collaboration with the Management Team located at the headquarters. Your leadership will ensure the highest level of service delivery adherence to professional standards and continuous performance monitoring to achieve organizational individual and program objectives efficiently and within budget.
What Youll Do : Key Responsibilities
As the Operations Manager you will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth and effective operation of our Toronto programs. Your responsibilities will include :
Client Relationship Management : Act as the primary point of contact for our client ensuring all contractual obligations are met and fostering strong collaborative relationships. This includes prompt resolution of issues regular communication and leading meetings to discuss performance debrief on incidents and provide comprehensive updates.
Program Oversight & Performance : Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Ottawas Toronto School Crossing Guard program ensuring efficient deployment adherence to schedules and optimal service delivery.
Team Leadership & Development : Provide exceptional leadership coaching and mentorship to both office and field staff. You will be responsible for performance evaluations fostering a productive and positive work culture and ensuring all team members receive comprehensive training on job duties organizational policies and procedures.
Operational Excellence : Analyze operational reports (e.g. daily reports inventory) to identify trends maximize efficiency and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Policy & Procedure Development : Contribute to the development and refinement of program and organization-wide policies and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness and compliance.
Financial Stewardship : Develop and manage program budgets ensuring fiscal responsibility and adherence to financial guidelines and targets.
Stakeholder Engagement : Cultivate and maintain strong sustainable relationships with key community stakeholders to support program objectives and community engagement.
Administrative & Reporting : Oversee administrative processes ensure meticulous maintenance of records and databases and provide required reporting deliverables to clients and internal stakeholders.
Event Planning : Plan and organize meetings and special events as required to support operational and organizational goals.
Other Duties : Perform additional duties as necessary to support the success of the Toronto office and the OSCs mission.
Working Conditions
Work Environment : This role operates within a hybrid work model offering flexibility.
Hours : Regular business hours apply though evening and weekend work may be required to meet operational demands during peak periods.
Travel : Local travel within the Greater Toronto Area is required for meetings and site visits.
Physical Demands : Manual dexterity required for computer and peripheral use. Ability to lift up to 50lbs

What Youll Bring : Qualifications & Experience
To thrive in this role you should possess a strong blend of leadership operational expertise and a commitment to collaboration and learning.
Education : A Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Operations Management Business Administration or a related field.
Experience :
Minimum of 5 years of progressive senior management experience in a non-profit business or front-line service environment with a proven track record of successful leadership.
At least 3 years of experience in human resources (e.g. strong understanding of personnel policies practices procedures and operational HR issues)
Leadership Skills : Demonstrated ability to lead motivate and manage large teams (100 employees) effectively with a strong focus on operational excellence and business processes.
Relationship Management : Proven ability to manage key stakeholder and client relationships with diplomacy and effectiveness.
Problem-Solving : Strong analytical thinking planning prioritization and execution skills with the ability to identify key issues and creatively overcome challenges.
Financial Acumen : Solid understanding of fiscal management budgeting funding contracts and partnerships.
Personal Attributes : High level of integrity confidentiality and accountability. Excellent attention to detail and a well-defined sense of diplomacy including strong negotiation conflict resolution and people management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs (e.g. Excel Word outlook). Sharepoint experience an asset.
