Operations Manager - Pork Storks Lethbridge

Location: Lethbridge, 20-minute drive from Geelong

Position: Senior leadership role within a leading rural veterinary business

About us :

Pork Storks Australia (PSA), part of Apiam Animal Health, is seeking an Operations Manager with animal husbandry or farming background and management experience to join our team at the Boar Stud in Lethbridge, Victoria.

Pork Storks Australia specializes in pig semen processing and delivery, operating two state-of-the-art facilities with superior health, environmental control, and quality management systems. PSA is part of Apiam Animal Health, a leading provider of veterinary services across rural and regional Australia.

About the position :

Reporting to the Intensive Business Manager, you will oversee the smooth and efficient day-to-day operations of the stud.

Key Responsibilities include :

  • Supervising and mentoring the PSA team, including auditing facilities, animal husbandry, semen collection, processing, packaging, and liaising with logistics.
  • Assisting with staff recruitment, training, development, and performance reviews.
  • Managing tenders, acquisitions, approvals, and ordering consumables.
  • Liaising with suppliers and contractors on equipment maintenance and building concerns.
  • Contributing to financial management, including budgeting, P&L analysis, and expense approvals.
  • Handling customer queries and resolving issues.
  • Monitoring dispatch systems in collaboration with logistics supervisors.
  • Coordinating with veterinarians on boar treatments, vaccinations, and quarantine procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with OH&S, building standards, and biosecurity protocols.
  • Access to technical and business mentors, with opportunities to collaborate with the QLD PSA site.

About you :

  • Experience in livestock handling and animal husbandry, with swine industry experience advantageous.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ management experience.
  • Proven leadership and staff management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and maintain accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Current Australian driver’s license.
