Job description

OPERATIONS MANAGER

Activity sector: Pulp and Paper

Site: Kamloops

Salary Range: $134,980 - $224,960

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8-hour dayshift

YOUR ROLE

Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Manager will lead and optimize pulp manufacturing at the Kamloops mill. They will provide leadership to a group of more than 150 salaried and union personnel. They will coach, develop and evaluate performance of direct reports by way of the Employee Development and Performance Appraisal Review (EDPAR), and promote the Kruger Way, culture and continuous improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate will have an advanced level of knowledge and a demonstrated track record in leading and managing world-class safety performance, expertise in pulp production, human relations, continuous improvement and a strong technical background. This position oversees the Fibreline, Power & Recovery, and Logistic areas.

Your Responsibilities

ü Responsible for managing operational safety, environment, quality, budgeting and costs while achieving production goals

ü Developing and implementing operational strategies, managing teams, fostering continuous improvement, and contributing to the overall profitability and growth of the operation

ü Co-ordinating with Operations personnel to ensure that the Kamloops Pulp Business System is understood, implemented, continuously monitored and improved

ü Ensuring personnel are trained in job duties and aware of the responsibilities, authorities, and interrelationships of personnel who manage, perform, and verify work affecting their areas

ü Responsible for production planning, including shutdown scheduling

ü Responsible for ensuring commitment to continuous improvement and prevention of pollution

ü Responsible for the Operations Business Systems which assures compliance to the ISO 9001:2015 AND ISO 14001:2015 standards. Participates in the ISO Management Review process

ü Oversees corrective and preventive action procedures

ü Involvement in emergency and safety response and preparedness, has authority to initiate mill or mill area shutdown or slowdown based on environmental emergency or compliance issues

ü Responsible for the integrity of the work processes and practices within the Power & Recovery and Pulping Business Systems

ü Responsible for warehouse management and shipments

ü Responsible for reporting of key metrics to site and corporate stakeholders

ü Participating in community and stakeholder engagement

Your Skills And Abilities

ü Strong technical knowledge in Kraft pulping

ü Strong mechanical aptitude, expertise in reliability and advanced knowledge of continuous improvement principles and techniques

ü Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral

ü Skilled in change management, people leadership, and developing a team

ü Advanced knowledge of capital budgets and long-range planning

ü Knowledge in pulp sales

ü Advanced knowledge in shipping and logistics

ü Working knowledge of BC Hydro rate structures and purchase agreements

Your Qualifications

ü You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field

ü You have a minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in pulp operations
