Empire Life is looking to hire an Operations Intelligence Lead to join our Group Underwriting team!

Role Overview

The Operations Intelligence Lead supports advancing operational effectiveness and analytical maturity within the organization. Working within a matrixed team structure, this role provides direct support to business unit leaders by delivering actionable insights, technical enablement, supporting execution of strategic priorities, and enabling workflows. The role combines analytical expertise with contributing to business-critical projects, requiring strong analytical skills, cross-functional collaboration, and a results-oriented mindset.

Key Responsibilities
Advanced Analytics, Insight Generation & Leadership Support
  • Deliver analytical support for leadership, conducting complex ad-hoc analyses, data deep dives, and scenario modeling.
  • Develop and enhance analytical models and tools (e.g., Excel macros, SQL, Python/R scripts) to identify trends and provide insights.
  • Perform root cause analysis on operational variances to support resolution and performance improvements.
  • Translate analytical findings into clear recommendations and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Support integration of machine learning techniques to improve forecasting, anomaly detection, and decision-making.
  • Apply AI tools (e.g., NLP, predictive analytics) to extract insights from unstructured data.
Initiative Delivery, Change Management & Transformation
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements and digital advancements, building business cases.
  • Contribute to strategic projects with an analytical and structured approach.
  • Manage specific project workstreams, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Collaborate with teams to design and refine operational processes.
  • Maintain project documentation for clarity and continuous learning.
Organizational Enablement & Continuous Improvement
  • Develop and maintain tools, templates, and reporting frameworks for sustainability.
  • Promote data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement culture.
  • Share knowledge and best practices to build team capabilities.
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience in data science, analytics, process design, digital programming, project management, or related fields.
  • Strong technical skills (Power BI, Excel, etc.) or ability to learn quickly.
  • Experience with project delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills across all media and audiences.
  • Proactive, ownership-driven, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership qualities to influence and coach others.
  • English proficiency required for applicants across Canada.
