Midland Transport is currently seeking a full-time Operations Finance Lead based out of our Head Office in Dieppe, NB. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a strong work ethic and a “Can Do” attitude.

Reporting to the Director of Operational Excellence, the Operations Finance Lead will be a key member of our team, working on improving Midland Operations' performance, reporting, processes, and controls by embedding Finance and Accounting competencies within operations.

Responsibilities
  • Lead by example to reinforce safe work habits among all employees.
  • Support safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and taking appropriate actions when procedures are not followed.
  • Provide accurate and timely information on terminal performance weekly and periodically.
  • Analyze variances, explain their causes, and highlight risks that may hinder KPI achievement.
  • Forecast production costs and overhead expenses variances monthly or as needed, focusing on reduction and adjustment of negative variances.
  • Support the Year-End financial reporting process.
  • Assist terminal and branch managers with budgeting processes and ensure submissions meet deadlines.
  • Present and defend operational needs to the executive leadership team.
  • Implement financial processes and controls, utilizing IMS systems and standard work procedures.
  • Promote cost reduction opportunities and support capital expenditure requests.
  • Use process data to develop strategies for equipment efficiency improvements.
  • Educate leadership on how decisions impact financial performance, developing their business acumen.
  • Serve as a resource for calculating savings.
Qualifications
  • University degree required.
  • CPA designation required.
  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong management, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, etc.).
  • Knowledge or experience with J.D. Edwards, Power BI, Cognos, and Tableau.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and technological proficiency to solve complex problems.
  • Experience in leading process improvement and optimization, including process mapping and documentation.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships within the company and with clients.
