Job summary

TAQA North in Alberta is seeking an Operations Engineer to join the Engineering Department, based in Calgary or from Crossfield/Rocky Mountain House with regular site travel. You will work with foremen, field operators, and asset teams to execute multi-discipline projects and support safe, efficient operations.

The role requires a Mechanical or Chemical engineering degree with 5+ years in oil and gas, P.Eng in Alberta, and ability to obtain security/background checks.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical or chemical engineering degree with 5+ years’ of experience in oil and gas facilities, operations, or process engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with APEGA in Alberta. Must be willing to authenticate deliverables within their competency.
  • Experience with Symmetry preferred.
  • Open to candidates based in Calgary (with regular travel to site) or working from Crossfield or Rocky Mountain House office locations.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting operations teams by executing multi-discipline projects.
  • Completing calculations ranging from control valve sizing, PSV sizing, piping hydraulics, etc.
  • Working with operations/maintenance to develop shutdown keys and control narratives.
  • Supporting asset teams with base management and maintenance capital projects.
  • Opportunity to execute larger capital projects as experience and capabilities permit.
  • Work directly in a field-based environment with Field Operations to identify inefficiencies, optimizations, and solutions to problems.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance on all TAQA facility designs, as well as adherence to sound engineering practices.
  • Assist the maintenance capital budget including project justifications, planning and execution, spend forecasting, and project close out.
  • Provide engineering expertise and design through generation and update of applicable engineering drawings such as P&IDs, Line Lists, Isometrics, Plot Plans, etc including authentication where required.
  • Conduct risk assessments of facility projects and implement changes to reduce risks to TAQA's operations.
  • Manage engineering consultants, construction supervisors and internal groups to safely and cost-effectively execute assigned projects.
  • Assist with the development of internal procedures and processes to further improve the delivery of TAQA's management of change and process safety related programs.
  • Support TAQA’s growing Process Safety Management systems and initiatives.
  • Scope out projects, including the identification and evaluation of alternatives, prepare cost estimates, and make recommendations on preferred solutions
  • Ensure relevant stakeholders are notified and involved in proposed changes
  • Coordinate and manage field inspectors, contractors and other vendors as required
  • Provide engineering expertise for equipment, day-to-day operations and maintenance of TAQA facilities and pipelines
  • Respond to field, management, and technical requests as required
  • Coordinate and manage management of change (MOC) and capital maintenance projects

The Operations Engineer will be part of the TAQA North Engineering Department and report directly to the Manager of Engineering. This challenging position will based out of either the Calgary (with regular travel to site) or working from the Crossfield or Rocky Mountain House office locations, working alongside foremen, field operators, ticketed trades people, asset integrity specialists, and other engineering personnel. This position is a unique opportunity for an engineer to gain solid field experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting operations teams by executing multi-discipline projects.

Qualifications:
  • Mechanical or chemical engineering degree with 5+ years’ of relevant experience in oil and gas facilities, operations, or process engineering.
  • EPC experience is considered an asset.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with APEGA in Alberta. Must be willing to authenticate deliverables within their competency.
  • Experience with Symmetry preferred.
  • Open to candidates based in Calgary (with regular travel to site) or working from the Crossfield or Rocky Mountain House office locations.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Ability to provide three satisfactory professional references and complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
