Job summary

Runnymede United Church is seeking a part-time, in-office Operations Director (20 hours per week) to act as an independent contractor at a fee of $40,000 per year based on experience. The OD leads operational strategy, aligning the board and ministers' vision with sustainable, well-run church operations.

The role includes building robust processes, planning activities, overseeing property projects, managing communications, and guiding a small staff team while supporting hiring and onboarding

Qualifications

• Experience in a senior management/administrative position.
• Experience in HR matters including supervising staff.
• Experience in setting goals, managing multiple stakeholders.
• Some experience in communications.
• Strong organizational and computer skills.
• Work or volunteer experience in a church or non-profit organization is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Ensure processes and procedures are in place for efficient church operations.
• Implement regular planning for activities and functions.
• Help manage church property projects.
• Oversee the communications function.
• Supervise 2 full-time and 3 part-time operational staff.
• Support the Ministry & Personnel Committee with hiring and onboarding.
• Generally lead the staff team with energy, enthusiasm and a sense of mission.

Role Summary and Responsibilities

The OD is the senior operational leader within RUC. Where ministers provide spiritual leadership, the OD provides operational leadership. The OD is the operational hub of a complex church—ensuring that the vision of the Board and Ministers becomes reality in a sustainable, well‑run way.

Responsibilities include ensuring process and procedures are in place for efficient church operations; implementing regular planning for activities and functions; helping to manage church property projects; overseeing the communications function; supervising 2 full‑time and 3 part‑time operational staff; supporting our Ministry & Personnel Committee with hiring and onboarding; and generally leading the staff team, bringing energy, enthusiasm and a sense of mission.
