Job summary

Ontario Clean Water Agency is seeking an Operations Coordinator for the Lorne Park Operations division in Mississauga, ON. The role directs, procures, operates and maintains Class 4 wastewater systems and coordinates O&M activities with leadership to the team.

Applicants must hold Class 1 certification(s) and a valid G driver’s license; overtime, on-call, and shift work are required. SCADA/CMMS experience is preferred.

Qualifications

In this role, you will direct, procure, operate and maintains all equipment systems in Class 4 wastewater treatment system. You will coordinate operations and maintenance activities and provide leadership to operations and maintenance team members. Will provide coverage for control room when required, support and follow-up, investigate and troubleshoot operational process issues that relate to level, pressure, flows and chemical dosing within the distribution system.


Mandatory


  • Must hold a minimum Class 1 certification(s) specific to the facility and in accordance with the applicable regulation (O.Reg. 128/04 of the Safe Drinking Water Act and/or O.Reg. 129/04 of the Ontario Water Resources Act) and have the ability to achieve certification to the highest level of the facility.

  • Valid Class G driver’s license.

  • Must be available for overtime and have the ability to be on-call after regularly scheduled hours, weekends and holidays as part of a rotation.

  • Must be willing to work shifts (Days, nights, weekends and holidays).

  • Must be able to respond to on-call within a reasonable period of time.


Knowledge


  • Knowledge and experience with Fluidizing bed incineration.

  • Excellent knowledge and experience with thickening and dewatering centrifuges and hydraulic cake pumping equipment.

  • Excellent knowledge and experience in the principles and practices necessary in the operation and maintenance of advanced wastewater treatment facilities.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of environmental health and safety legislation, regulations, procedures and guidelines.

  • General knowledge of industrial processes and maintenance and repair of a variety of equipment and structures such as hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems, digestors, cogeneration engines, incinerators and piping to operate, inspect, clean, and maintain them by conducting scheduled readings and recordings; monitoring local process conditions and equipment operations (flow rates, temperatures and pressures).

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions including storage of chemicals, confined space entry, equipment lockout/tagging and personal protective equipment.

  • Knowledge of wastewater facilities operating methods, procedures and techniques and their practical application. Technical and electrical/mechanical knowledge.

  • Familiarity/competency with computerized monitoring systems such as SCADA, CMMS and overall computer literacy to record data from inspections and monitoring activities to complete work orders, project forms to initiate repairs for maintenance.

  • Judgment and decision making skills to provide direction to staff on projects, work and priorities.

  • Interpersonal skills to provide direction, advice and recommendations to management, contractors, equipment suppliers, project staff and other Agency personnel.

  • Problem solving and evaluative skills to troubleshoot and make timely decisions to address work priorities and emergencies.

  • Very strong analytical skills to assess administrative and technical needs and capabilities, provide options, make administrative, construction and operating decisions and solve complex problems.

  • Good project management skills to support capital, technical and other projects.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and follow process drawings to aid in troubleshooting equipment problems.

  • Position requires physical dexterity to perform job duties in all weather conditions, in confined spaces and in dirty and/or noisy environments.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to effectively delegate work and meet contractual obligations.

OCWA’s Operator Career Path Program:


The Operator Career Path Program provides learning, continuing education, career development and certification advancement opportunities. As you develop and obtain higher level licenses, you will progress through the Operator Career Path with increased operational responsibilities as well as training and mentoring opportunities. When you successfully obtain a higher certification/license, you will be eligible for additional base or premium pay in accordance with the schedule below.


OCWA offers internal career progression for Operators through the Operator Career Path to encourage them to pursue higher‑level licences. The salary ranges below will be applied based on the certification you hold at the time of hire and will be progressed internally upon obtaining higher‑level certification/license:



  • $24.88 to $26.41 per hour (OIT)

  • $27.92 to $31.06 per hour (Level 1 Operator)

  • $29.49 to $32.83 per hour (Level 2 Operator)

  • $30.67 to $38.04 per hour (Level 3 or 4 Operator)
