Job summary

Ryder is seeking a Customs & Trade Compliance Specialist to support the import of goods into Canada and ensure adherence to customs rules, trade agreements, and government requirements. You will collaborate with brokers, carriers, suppliers, and internal teams to enable timely clearance and minimize compliance risk.

The role requires 3–5+ years in customs or related fields, with a focus on accuracy, data integrity, and regulatory knowledge.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of experience in Customs Compliance, International Trade, Freight Forwarding, Brokerage, or Import Operations.
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Supply Chain, International Trade, Business, Logistics, or a related field, preferred.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP/TMS or customs management systems are assets.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor daily import activities into Canada.
• Review customs entries for accuracy and country of origin declarations.
• Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and carriers.
• Support CBSA regulations, USMCA, permits, and government requirements.
• Identify and resolve customs clearance issues and documentation gaps.
• Maintain compliance metrics, reporting, and documentation.

Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Customs & Trade Compliance Specialist to support the importation of goods into Canada and ensure compliance with customs regulations, trade agreements, and government requirements. This role will work closely with customs brokers, transportation providers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to facilitate timely customs clearance and minimize compliance risks.

Essential Functions

• Prepare and submit daily, weekly, monthly billing for customer.
• Creates specialized reports based on customer needs. Audit inbound/outbound reports.
• Perform general office duties such as ordering supplies, data entry, maintain office equipment and vendor files.
• Plan and prepare work schedules and keep records of employee’s work schedules and time cards.
• Coordinate customer physical inventory and resolve any inventory issues.
• Develop new account set ups for WMS, test for accuracy and troubleshoot system issues.
• Responsible for hiring, training and performance management of direct report.
• Manage and coordinate staff meetings, training and company functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor daily import activities into Canada.
• Review customs entries for accuracy, including tariff classification, customs valuation, and country of origin declarations.
• Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and carriers to ensure efficient border clearance.
• Support compliance with CBSA regulations, CUSMA (USMCA), import permits, and other regulatory requirements.
• Assist with customs audits, verifications, and record retention requirements.
• Identify and resolve customs clearance issues, discrepancies, and documentation gaps. Support duty savings initiatives, including free trade agreement qualification and duty recovery programs.
• Monitor changes to customs regulations and communicate impacts to the business.
• Maintain compliance metrics, reporting, and documentation.

EDUCATION

• H.S. diploma/GED
• Bachelor’s degree Related field preferred.

• 3-5+ years of experience in Customs Compliance, International Trade, Freight Forwarding, Brokerage, or Import Operations.
