You're passionate about keeping things running smoothly, love diving into the details of safety, maintenance, and production performance, and you know your way around a pulp and paper mill, we've got a spot for you.
We're looking for a
hands-on, process-savvy Operational Specialist to support daily operations in one of our key production areas. Working with the Steam & Recovery team you'll be the anchor point between operations, maintenance, technical teams, and leadership, making sure performance stays sharp, processes stay safe, and everyone's rowing in the same direction.
A day in the life of an Operational Specialist:Safety & Housekeeping - Non-Negotiables- You'll lead the charge on safety in your area, owning and updating all JSAs, CSHAs, lockouts, and SOPs.
- You'll ensure housekeeping standards are met, helping maintain a clean and hazard-free environment.
- Safety's not just a task list, it's how you work.
Operational Support - Keeping the Line Moving- You'll coordinate with Shift Supervisors, Operators, Planners, and Maintenance Staff to plan for both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
- You'll minimize downtime during shutdowns, start-ups, and area outages with smart, well-communicated plans.
- Whether it's a major outage or a quick adjustment, you help get things back online efficiently and safely.
Performance & KPI Ownership - You Know Your Numbers- You'll help define, track, and support area KPIs like cost, safety, uptime, and troubleshooting metrics.
- You'll identify and document lost opportunities, and more importantly, you'll dig into why they happened and how to prevent them.
- You'll work with Operators daily to improve repeatability, efficiency, and overall process capability.
Collaboration - Be the Glue Between Teams- From vendors and suppliers to internal engineers and operators, you'll connect the dots.
- You'll coordinate materials, inventory, and support services for your area's needs.
- You'll be the go-to voice in your area for process questions, improvement ideas, and training.
Process Development - Building for the Future- You'll help develop and improve SOPs, training docs, and testing procedures alongside technical teams.
- You'll contribute to capital project planning by identifying operational constraints.
- You'll stay on top of industry standards, regulations, and ISO documentation to keep things compliant and competitive.
What You Bring to the Table:- Hands-on experience in a pulp & paper mill or heavy industrial environment
- Strong understanding of production flows, shutdown/startup procedures, and safety systems
- Great communication skills: You're clear, consistent, and you know how to keep stakeholders aligned
- A knack for troubleshooting and finding better ways to do things
- A collaborative mindset: You coach, support, and help others succeed
Bonus Points if You Have:- Lockout/tagout experience specific to pulp and paper
- Familiarity with IRIS, SAP, or similar maintenance planning tools
- Experience in facilitating or leading shutdown/outage planning
- Exposure to continuous improvement tools like Lean, Six Sigma, or RCA
