THE POSITION

Keyera is seeking an experiencedOperational Risk Engineerto join our Operations Engineering Team. This role is responsible for identifying, evaluating, prioritizing, and mitigating operational risks related to process safety, equipment reliability, and regulatory compliance. A key accountability of this role is to maintain and prioritize theasset risk registry, ensuring that the highest risks are clearly identified and effectively addressed at each facility.

The Operational Risk Engineer integrates risk management principles into day-to-day operations and projects, while driving continuous improvement in safety and compliance.As a subject matter expert in risk assessment, hazard identification, and mitigation strategies, you will play a vital role in supporting Keyera’s commitment to regulatory compliance, industry best practices, and our internal Opera tional Excellence goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks through structured methodologies (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA).

  • Support the development and maintenance of the Operational Risk Registry, ensuring risks are tracked, prioritized, and addressed.

  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to integrate risk-based thinking into daily activities and projects.

  • Participate in incident investigations, providing follow-up action planning.

  • Provide risk-based input on Management of Change (MOC) reviews and capital project designs.

  • Conduct regular reviews of risk controls, ensuring they remain effective and aligned with operational priorities.

  • Mentor operations engineers and frontline staff in risk identification, hazard mitigation, and operational safety best practices.

  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring risk management processes remain proactive and effective.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be organized, energetic, and driven to maximize our Gathering and Processing business with the following qualifications:

  • Engineering degree (Chemical, Mechanical, or equivalent); P.Eng. designation in Alberta preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in operations, process safety, risk management, or reliability engineering within the energy sector.

  • Strong knowledge of risk frameworks (HAZOP, LOPA, etc.).

  • Proven experience developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies in complex operating environments.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Comfortable working in both office and field settings, with a self-starter mindset.
