Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Operational Risk & Control Specialist to join our Risk and Control Governance team!

In this pivotal role, you will contribute to the execution of our business unit's Risk Management Framework, ensuring our operations are safeguarded against potential risks.

You will play a key role in supporting the review of internal and external operational risk incidents, acting as a vital liaison on behalf of the business. Your expertise will help ensure that our team understands its risks and implements robust standards, controls, and practices to mitigate them effectively. This will support the achievement of our strategic objectives and drive organizational success.

*This is a hybrid opportunity (Tues, Wed, Thurs in office).

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Execute core elements of the business unit Risk Management Framework.
  2. Review internal and external operational risk incidents/errors for lessons learned and opportunities to implement new controls.
  3. Participate in risk control assessments, utilizing process documentation and analysis techniques, and make business recommendations for improvement.
  4. Maintain awareness of risk and control issues within the business/function, whether identified internally or through audit findings.
  5. Develop and deliver presentations to internal teams and senior audiences, maintaining effective business relationships.
  6. Support projects and business changes impacting key risks or controls, ensuring the risk profile remains intact.
  7. Participate in meetings related to operational risk and control matters.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in risk management, internal controls, or audit within a corporate environment.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess processes, identify risks, and recommend improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience presenting to senior audiences.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, capable of working independently and within teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field (preferred).
  • Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CPA, CIA, Risk Management Certification) are a plus.
  • Understanding of retirement plan services operations is advantageous.

Referenced Salary Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia

Working Arrangement: Hybrid

Salary Range: CAD $64,575 - $107,625 (dependent on location and experience). For roles outside primary locations, contact recruitment@manulife.com for salary details. Employees are eligible for incentive programs based on performance.
