Job description

Agilus is recruiting for an Operating Shift Engineer - 3rd or 4th Class in the property management industry in Hamilton, Ontario.

The position is responsible for office and retail properties located in downtown Hamilton. The Operating Shift Engineer maintains mechanical equipment such as heat pumps, boilers, air handlers, cooling towers, fire systems in a commercial office tower / retail complex in downtown Hamilton. This includes the daily operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, shutdown and start-up, chemical treatment, operational checks and testing of HVAC equipment and control systems, instrumentation, emergency power generation, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection and alarm systems.

Responsibilities:
  1. Provide day-to-day operations and maintenance on rotating 12-hour shifts, delivering high-level facilities management services to tenants and closing work orders within the response time policy.
  2. Monitor, adjust, and maintain mechanical equipment such as heat pumps, boilers, air handlers, and pumps providing chilled water, hot water, and air conditioning.
  3. Attend to and close work orders promptly, ensuring compliance with regulations and communicating work status via mobile application.
  4. Comply with all company standards, procedures, policies, and governmental regulations, including participation in occupational health and safety programs.
  5. Read and interpret mechanical blueprints.
  6. Record all required readings and maintain accurate system operation records.
  7. Perform preventative and unscheduled maintenance and repairs of all building systems.
  8. Assist the Senior Shift Operating Engineer in providing operational and technical support, overseeing 3rd party contractors for safe and compliant operation and maintenance of systems.
Qualifications:
  • Stationary Engineers 3rd or 4th Class Certificate.
  • Knowledge of HVAC equipment and its operation, with experience in boiler operation and maintenance.
  • Understanding of HVAC components, valves, dampers, automation interlocks, and override procedures.
  • Ability to perform duties at heights and ladder work.
  • 2–5 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a commercial environment.
  • Strong technical capabilities with experience monitoring building systems and equipment.
Compensation:
  • Salary + benefits.
  • 12-hour shifts — 4 days on / 4 days off, alternating between day and night rotations.
