Job Overview
- Prepare and verify Design Change Packages, including Modifications, Temporary Modifications, and Non-Identical Component Replacements, focusing on providing design support to Minor Modifications portfolio.
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation such as specifications, data sheets, Instrument Calibration Sheets (ICSs), Electrical Wiring Diagrams (EWDs), Connection Wiring Diagrams (CWDs), cable-block diagrams, and Environmental Qualification (EQ) documentation.
- Review and accept updates to Instrument Uncertainty Calculations (IUCs) as required.
- Conduct research and analysis of electrical and I&C components, equipment, and materials to evaluate their suitability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
- Address design-related field issues.
- Ensure engineering activities, such as modifications, do not adversely impact a nuclear facility’s design basis or margins.
- Provide advice and direction to Operations, Maintenance, and Performance Engineering; review designs; and sign Field Initiated Changes.
- Perform field support during troubleshooting, inspections, acceptance, and approvals.
- Engage with regulatory bodies, including the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).
- Maintain documented processes and procedures to reflect operational improvements and system additions.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to accept designs and changes.
- Provide Engineering Change Control guidance and support field issues and Field Initiated Changes, working with EPC vendors.
- Assess impacts on cost and schedule, and support efforts to minimize project impacts.
- Gather input from stakeholders to ensure project requirements are clearly captured.
- Maintain process compliance during project execution.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Applied Science, preferably in Electrical Engineering.
- Must be a licensed engineer in Ontario or eligible for licensing.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years of experience in a similar role.
- Design and construction experience, preferably in Nuclear or Power/Utility industries.
- Knowledge of engineering processes such as Work Management, Engineering Change Control, and station reporting; familiarity with quality assurance programs is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control principles, including sensors, transmitters, control valves, PLC/DCS systems, and SCADA.
- Experience with ETAP, relay protection, load-flow, motor-starting, and arc-flash studies is an asset.
- Project management and leadership experience.
- Design Engineer or Design Team Lead experience in Nuclear or similar Candu Nuclear Power Plants is preferred.
- Experience producing design engineering deliverables, including conceptual, front-end, and detailed design engineering, calculations, specifications, and requirements.
- Familiarity with Nuclear Codes and Standards such as CSA N285, ASME, ISA, CSA C22.1, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, N286, N299, and related standards.
- Knowledge in areas like Environment Qualification, Seismic Qualification, Software Qualification, Equipment Sizing, Procurement Engineering, and Cyber Security is an asset.
- Ability to work collaboratively, lead and mentor teams, and communicate effectively.
- Interest in fast-paced environments, with initiative and self-motivation.
- Understanding of governance and procedures, with an analytical approach.
- Knowledge of ECC Process is an asset.
- Problem-solving skills to evaluate and improve processes, equipment, and systems.
- P. Eng. designation is an asset.
