Thompson Rivers University is seeking an Open Learning Faculty Member to teach a course in social psychology. The role involves facilitating student learning, marking assignments, and engaging with course content. Candidates must hold a PhD in Psychology and demonstrate experience in online teaching and educational technologies.
This course aims to expand students' knowledge of human behaviour and thought in social context. Topics include self-concept, self-esteem, and gender identity - the elements of social identity; conformity, compliance, and obedience - processes that influence social behaviour; altruism; causes and control of aggression; and group performance, including group decision-making and leadership. Before completion of the course, students examine applications of social psychology principles in six areas : population control, health promotion, the environment, law, politics, and the workplace.
Open Learning Faculty Members are teaching staff in the Open Learning division of TRU, and the role of the Open Learning Faculty Member is to actively encourage, support and guide students toward success in their academic studies. Open Learning Faculty Members must be skilled in teaching, fully knowledgeable of the subject matter and demonstrate a positive, open and caring attitude in all interaction with students.
Responsibilities of the Open Learning Faculty Member (Web) include but are not limited to :
We anticipate 40 - 60 students in this course per year. These numbers are only estimates and actual numbers for the course may be greater or less than the estimated numbers.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for candidates with a PhD in academic Psychology in an area related to the course being advertised, clearly demonstrated equivalency may be considered.
The successful candidate will provide evidence of current and ongoing engagement in the course subject matter through research and / or scholarly teaching, which may include the dissemination of outcomes in appropriate academic venues.
Evidence of engagement with the scholarship of teaching and / or online teaching would be an asset.

The pay for Open Learning Faculty Members varies based on several factors including the number of students in the course, the type of work, the type of course and the number of assessments completed by students in the course. The total pay includes amounts based on hourly rates as well as set dollar amounts for certain types of work.
