NIIGAANIIN SPECIALIST (Ontario Works Case Worker)
Job Type: 1 Year Maternity Leave Contract
Location: Sagamok Anishnawbek
Hours of Work: Standard Days; includes occasional evenings and weekends (37.5 hours/ wk)
Annual Salary Range: $50,000 - $54,000

We are looking for an individual to join our Niigaaniin Team in Sagamok Anishnawbek providing the full Ontario Works program. A. PURPOSE AND SCOPE
Under the direction of the Niigaaniin Specialist Manager and the Director of Niigaaniin Services, the Niigaaniin Specialist is responsible for client support functions within the financial and employment component of Social Assistance including but not limited to emergency assistance, ongoing assistance, and transitional support funding and any other type of funding provided under Niigaaniin.
B. QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements:
- It is preferred for the applicant to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First Nation.
- University Degree in Social Sciences or Social Work and/or Diploma in Social Services.
- Experience in social assistance would be an asset.
- Experience dealing with individuals and facilitating groups of diverse clients facing multiple barriers to employment.
- Certified life coach and experience in motivational interview skills would be an asset.
- Will have a valid class “G” driver’s license and a vehicle.
- Must have a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin, culture, and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Treaty.
- Will be knowledgeable about the culture and the significant characteristics of the social structure and relevant human services needs of Anishnawbe.
- Familiar with Ontario Works Programs and Services would be an asset.
- Familiar with community services networks and knowledge of Niigaaniin Services would be an asset.
- Knowledge of relevant Tribal, First Nation, federal and provincial policies and legislation, regulations, and/or guidelines that are relevant to the funding and delivery of Niigaaniin Services.
- Knowledge of the range of both contemporary and traditional methods of intervention, assessment, counselling, support, training, and healing that are effective in promoting community, family, and individual development and well-being.
- Knowledge and familiarity with compliance with Tribal, First Nation, and federal policies and/or legislative requirements as they relate to safety and health in the workplace.
- Knowledge of relevant community-based, internal, and external programs and services available to community members.
- Ability to relate effectively to community members generally and to families and individuals seeking assistance.
- Will have a thorough knowledge of the range of relevant community-based and external programs and services available to community members.
- Ability to balance target outcomes with quality client care.
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication (verbal/written).
- Excellent stress management skills.
- Efficient time management skills with adherence to timelines and deadlines, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to learn new skills and be flexible to adapt to changing workload.
- Able to work independently and maintain a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities.
- Able to work with minimal supervision.
- All candidates must be able to work with a diverse population.
